welcome to the forum, expect you might get more response from Monday. You must be a bit of a masochist if you like the idea of varnished wood in melbourne's climate! unless of course you have someone to do the work!

If you like the classic boats, try to get to the maritime museum in Freemantle WA.

There are actually two; The Wooden Boat Association and the Classic Yacht Association. The Wooden Boat Association accepts owners of and lovers of all kinds of wooden boats, from a full-rigged ship to a model rowing boat. We meet at Albert Park Yacht Club on the fourth Sunday of any month, except when the Grand Pricks prevents anyone else from using the park. The next meeting will be on the 25th of this month. We gather round and sail small [ie, under 20 ft] boats on the lake, and admire each other's handiwork. From time to time there are activities in other locations, and there is a branch in Paynesville. I'm in Moorabbin, and you can call me on 9555 3598.
The Classic Yacht Association exists to race wooden yachts. Their favourite shipwrighting tools are a fat chequebook and fountain pen. If that appeals to you call Col Anderson at Doyle Fraser sailmakers.
