Maybe better is the wrong word?
this forum is more for the old fuddy and old boys school of thought, im looking for a forum which would teach me the ways of all things boating, ie charts, nav, safty etc, not one thats worried about the price of chips in a port on the med?? i have read a lot about no new blood coming into the sport/hobbie, well i can see why you should think that but its not true, we are here but you think we are the weekend worrors that should be sunk, if you dont belive me, look at the post subjects, i have read about three new starters threads which you guys have shot down in flames, if this this is how you treat the new starter then i'll have nothing to do with you, i wont join your fourms, i wont join your clubs and i wont subscribe to your magazines, i will still be out on the water enjoying myself with my family and friends and yes i do belive 10 grand is a lot of money for a boat!!

We only host the forums we dont control the content.

If you want advice the magazines and indeed the forums are tha place to ask or simply pick up the phone and speak to our editorial who will be only too happy to answer your questions.

Dont be shy!

I've only been boating for a year and have asked lots of questions and received some really good advice, some of which must have taken ages to type! I've found people here are more than happy to help.

Keep an eye on the raggie forums too as there is equally good advice on there, the great thing about forums is you can often find the answers to questions you didn't even realise you needed to know.

With an attitude like that you probably wouldn't listen to any advice either. Visiting these forums is not compulsory, perhaps you would be happier somewhere else. Hope you learn enough quickly from some other source (or that you are inordinately lucky) to keep yourself, family and friends safe.

do,es that mean you are going to stop reading the posts on here, shame you might have learnt that for the most part
the forum members are the best source of info, also if this
is not what you wanted, why did you join /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
bye bye

No there isn't really but if you consider £10K alot for a boat then perhaps you should look at "Practical Boat Owner" The PBO forum...

Just ask sensible questions, and you'll get answers. Not everyone here has huge boats in the Med, and many of those that do started off in much smaller boats, and have a huge wealth of experience. Many of the powerboaters here also started in sailing boats and dinghy's

Nothing stuck up about it, not my style. In boating terms £10K is not a lot nowdays.

My suggestion was constructive, as practical owners enjoy making things work or repairing things themselves to save costs.

Typical stuck up T**T reply...............and T**T means?

Roger did not mean offence but was giving good advise the PBO forum is a source of good information especially if cruising on a budget.

Also if you look at Brendans post above he is correct in that this forum can answer lots of questions.

It did for me when I first started and continues to do so

Becksy

I can assure you that there is nothing "stuck up" about the Rat. A more down to earth bloke you could not wish to meet.

Have you ever met him?

I think you owe him an apology.

You are just trying to wind the forum up aren't you?

There is a wealth of useful advice on here. I was new to boating a couple of years ago and got loads of good advice, I still do. People went to the trouble to send me PM's with extra details, or offer their phone number to call for advice.

Take Jezbanks for example, a regular poster on here. I was worrying about my first trip to Bembridge IOW as looked a bit tricky for a new boy. He talked me through the whole trip on the phone.

Brendan keeps the community's PC's alive as well as good boating advice,

HLB provides useful west country information posted in an entertaining style.

And many more regulars.

All I will say is the weather this summer has been so bad there has not been much boating to talk about. But if a new person posts they get good advice IMO

It's not much good complaining that £10k is a lot of money. if the forum has suggested it isn't. They are just being realistic. Some older boats cost £10k in repairs in their first year. Marinas cost almost half of it. Its just being realistic based on the facts the poster provides.

However many have boats in the £10k bracket and keep them at home. So there will always be advice. Just post in the right place. and ask the right questions.

Even now if you asked a sensible question I am sure most of the above would give honest useful advice.

You have to bear in mind that this is a forum, its hosted free and on the odd occasion someone will have a bit of fun with your posts, especially if it Friday night and they have had a beer or two. But in general its a gold mine of information. Also use the search, most questions have been asked before.

Now tell us about your boat, what problems you are facing etc and I am sure most will offer reasonable advice. Like a Google search not every response hits your requirements, just be reasonable and you will get so much more.
