Is the Ramsholt Arms open?

Can't say I'm afraid. It was closed a couple of weeks ago when we were in the Deben, but the pubs have been allowed to open since then so it might be open now. Hopefully a Deben dweller will happen along soon and give the answer.

This is from their Facebook site posted on 5th July.

We are delighted to open our doors again this weekend at the Ramsholt Arms. We are so proud of our team who have worked so hard to allow us to open safely and thank everyone for their support throughout this time.
We have had to make some changes to our service so please bear with us while we get used to this new way of working.
We plan to be open 7 days a week, serving food lunch and evening. We recommend booking so please call the pub on 01394 411209.
The New Ramsholt Arms Summer 2020:
Booking a table – No more than 6 people are allowed to sit together inside from no more than 2 households.
Outside tables – We do not book tables outside so this is on a first come first served basis. Again no more than 6 people from two households.
Social distancing – Please stay at a minimum safe distance of 1 metre plus at all times.
Movement – There is no service at the bar. We are providing table service only and therefore we ask that you stay at the table.
Payment – Card payments preferred and contactless where possible.
Hand Sanitiser – Hand Sanitiser is available so please use it when necessary.
Toilets – One person at a time please.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time and look forward to seeing you!

Their phone number is in the text. I suspect they are open but you never know. The Anchor opened in Woodbridge last weekend but then closed again. I am told they thought it wasn't viable with all the record taking and table service only and it was too much hassle, but that is second hand from a regular.

We are finding the new regulations are making a visit to the pub has become a sterile affair. Only allowed to sit at a table allocated by the staff. No opportunity to have a chat with people because you have to sit where you are told. As the website says, no more than two households allowed to mix... Staff in face masks. one way markings all through the place.

One landlady we visited told that the liceinsing stazi at Colchester council inspected five pubs on the opening Saturday and revoked their licenses on the spot for "violations" of parts of the many regulations.

Of course those who take away other peoples jobs still get paid.

Yep, welcome to the New Improoved Less Risky way of English life, wear a face mask each day to keep them Virus away
You know it does make scense, eh ?

Popeye,
I am a grown up. I didn’t really want to be a grown up but it was sort of forced on my by virtue of getting to be the old side of 60. The sea is my playground and I have sailed some of the most dangerous waters in Northern Europe for fun. Risk management and staying alive is what I do.

I do not need some idiot with a clipboard and half my thinking ability to try and tell me what constitutes a risk. Especially so when it is very clear the applications of the regulations do very little to reduce risk whilst at the tame time making life not worthwhile.

We visited the Black Buoy yesterday. Greeted at a closed gate by someone in a face mask squirting anti bacterial gel on my hands... Then directing us to a seat when the garden was empty. We were instructed on how to go to the toilets with a stricture to use the elbow to move the engaged sign from vacant to occupied.. Then a one way system... except it wasn’t a one way system and both the male and female toillets were open, so both were marked as occupied when only one side was in use.

Not going back until they behave sensibly and make a visit worthwhile.

Social distancing is or has become your new way of life, eh ?

i guess ?

It's not the antisocial distancing that gets me.. I don't have a problem with avoiding getting close to lots of people or not going into crowded places.. It's the over the top and inconsistent heavy handed and regulatory approach that people are imposing that is getting on my nerves.

We tried to go shopping but the changing rooms are closed.. It is an easy gesture for idiots to impose but does very little. An infected person can infect garments simply by sneezing near the display racks or touching racks clothes.. So why close the changing rooms?

When did you get your epidemiology or virology qualification, as you obviously know more than the WHO and the members of SAGE?

This is redolent of the news this morning where one of the main "Covid19 is a myth" purveyors in Florida died of Covid19. Let's hope you don't get Covid...

Gladys..
Since there has been a dearth of good research into transmission vectors I am as well qualified as the next man.
No one to date has actually tried to work out how much virus is in exhaled breath, sneezes, contact from a mucous membrane to hand..

I do know that as little as 14 virus particles can lead to a successful infection
But also that the prognosis is very much determined by the initial infection dose. My source knows a thing or two as he is doing molecular level research into cross membrane chemical transfer .

Under which section of which Act of Parliament does a local council have a duty to "keep people safe"?

And BTW, a licensing authority has the power to take away someones living at the drop of a hat by revolking their license. That is far from powerless. In fact it is draconian.

Rubbish. Revocation takes place after a review hearing which is convened on notice on one of a number of specified grounds. In other words contrary to your claims of over zealous petty Hitlers strutting around destroying livings on a whim, due process has to be observed iI accordance with the rule of law.

I am merely reporting what the landlady of the Plough Great Bentley said to me last Sunday. That Licensing inspectors visited pubs in Colchester on Saturday 4 and revoked the licenses of five pubs on the spot for covid regulations related issues. I have no reason to believe she was lying.

Sorry, I may have been a bit previous. It may well be there are specific powers under the plague regs allowing an immediate closure for breach.
