Is St Kat's the best marina in the world?

That sounds great. I walked across the top of St Catharine's to my office every day for a number of years and failed to notice any of this...

54 years ago I worked down the East End. The buildings that were demolished belonged to the dark ages and we should be grateful that, just for once, the British desire to keep crap buildings just 'cos they're old was overruled. Today the whole area is a credit to the planners. Now we need to knock down Hammersmith bridge and get a modern one.

What an appalling, misleading, dishonest misrepresentation of reality. If you hate this country so much why do you still live here and not in some bastion of decency, humanitarianism and freedom like Belarus, Uzbekistan or Venezuela?
I'm sure all those would welcome you with open arms.

Each to their own, but trying to apply today's thoughts and mind sets to behaviour of century's gone by is a rather futile exercise in my own personal view.

Certain parts are cherry picked and used today to uphold arguments . Personally, I don't feel the need to feel guilty about past generations actions. That's the way it was.
 
The Royal Navy is an instrument of Government policy; as of course it should be.

It does what it's told (mostly), within the limits of the discretion allowed it by its political masters.

An excellent, very readable, book that explores and analyses that relationship in great detail is "Command of the Ocean" by N.A.M.Rodger.
 
probably not the best marina in the world but very nice locking is a bit slow but staff are very helpful it’s very peaceful spent 5 nights there last week our second visit will be going back

I think you need to get real about our less than sparkling colonial history

Jumbleduck may have been laying it on a bit thick but the notion that British colonialism was in any way, shape or form a good thing is frankly laughable

Private bathroom, check.
Discount card for surrounding cafes, bars, retailers, check.
Walking distance to the Tower of London, etc check.
Secure in absolutely all weathers, check.

If you don't want to visit London, don't go. If you do, St Kaths is a great place (only place) to moor.

Yes, I have been there a number of times over the years. In fact, I think I was there the year it opened! But I have not been there in the last few years......so what? Can I not comment on the price?
If you have a holding tank I can a assure you that you don't need their loo or shower. Freebies......well I would rather have a lower marina rate and no freebies/discounts but I realise others will disagree. A classic example was Falmouth the other week. I was charged over £18 a night for anchoring and the chap who collected the money said the price included freebies/discounts in town to soften the blow, none of which I wanted.
 
Your comment "... they just provide a pontoon and maybe a loo. " suggests you have not been there, as it is factually incorrect. Clearly you have not been therefore a while, so your post is misleading.
 
I spent a few weeks in St Kats. About six years ago. The pricing was fine then. But I think they have put prices up since. … I also spent a couple of weeks in Limehouse. Overall I preferred Limehouse. … in St Kats there are tourists everywhere. I’ve nothing against tourists. But I was berthed next to Starbucks and I felt like an exhibit in a zoo sometimes
