Re: amateur satellite guesswork follows....

best place to look is www.ses-astra.com - the 'network' providers for Sky. As I understand it, the UK has a seperate footprint to lots of europe, however there are a lot of common 'free to air' broadcasts in English such as BBC World, Euro Sport etc. The best bet is to buy a dish, Universal LNB, decoder (Pace are a good bet - deal direct - don't go to the high street) and look at free to air stuff - avoid analogue as it will be switched off soon, go for digital.

Re: help above pls markc...

You obv know your stuff. I do not care if a decoder can get only loony toons all day. All I hear abt is sky sky sky from the kids. Can I buy a decoder and a dish and get some nice cartoon network with all-day tom and jerry? Is sky1 with simpsons free? Are all the decoders the same fitings? Don't answer here - pls contrib to dolt spannerhead (me) posting above.

Not so much an expert as someone who spent the whole of summer 2000 with boat away on brokerage with no sale and became DESPERATE for boating chat, help trying to sell her etc.
Thankfully sold in March and bought new boat straight away so have only now thought of the forum again!!!
We have a Sealine 218 Envoy. We have her on a new SBS trailer[very helpful when ordering from them and only 3 week wait for delivery. we had full set of rollers put on it and from experience of our friends launching a Falcon 23 off a trailer with just support pads we seem to launch and recover her easier and in shallower water.on the same slips
We tow behind a Shogun LWB 2.6 petrol.Must say petrol consumption about the same as when not towing!!so don't know if it's good when towing or bad when not!!!
Seems to tow well and cope with all the slipways we have used this year so far.
Friends tow Falcon 23 behind Land Cruiser Diesel.
Diesel also in boat so heavy load and when talking afterwards every hill we seem to have gone into low gears on so have they so we seem to be coping very well.
I have towed her back from Oxford to Bristol and when we launch in the city docks I very often drive back through the city as Steve has had a few beers!!!
Handles well and you soon get used to it or could that be that women drivers are better than men!!!
A friend a few years ago had a Holiday and was very pleased with her and kept her for about 8 years.
Our last boat was a Fairline, well constructed
Hope some of this is useful.

Don't know if you are already looking for your boat but it is worth looking at Essex Boatyards at www.essexboatyards.co.uk.
I know it's a long way to go and look but all the prices are very cheap and not all of it is rubbich.
We bought our Sealine from there and all the other 218;s were between 17,000 to 20,000+.We looked at 2 over there both at 14,000 and got ours for 12,000 all reupholstered and only a few small jobs to do.Boat in very good condition outside and in.
It was cheaper than the 215 model that preceeded it that we had seen for sale in other brokers.
the web site is very good and have a chat with the owners as they are helpful.
