Is she a Harrison Butler?

I’m just speculating but she looks something akin to HB’s Bogle design and definitely has typical Harrison-Butler, barrel like proportions!

You could try looking for a copy of HB’s book Cruising Yachts: Design and Performance, which might shed some light. ISBN 0 8548 7397 0

Thank you for your help ...I am going to send pictures and measurements to the HB association and see if they can help.

Not a lot on the net about HB designs ..I will see if i can get a copy of the book too !

Almost certainly not a HB: the sheer doesn't have enough spring in it. You may well find a register number on one of the beams under the mast. Often facing forward, so you need to look from the forepeak aft.

Do you if she had any previous names, or the builder's name? I looked up "Susan" in my 1964 Lloyds List, but nothing was even close in size. Other than that, it's case of trawling through the List to find the number.

Looks kind of like a Deben 4 tonner to me, right kind of proportions?

Hi Apparently owned by the same family for the last 25 yrs or so.. I have no knowledge of any other names..

Appears to be Pine on Oak.

Thank you for the link...quite a likeness i agree..

Susans current rig is Ali mast / boom / cutter rigged.

Looking for a wooden mast...A Gaff rig would be nice, but i can see myself spending far too long on fiddling and not sailing !

Do you know the various dimensions? On your web site it says 22', but is this OA, waterline etc?

My 1935 Lloyds (and some post wars) lists a "Susan" built by Woodnutts ST Helens, IOW, in 1929., a Bm Aux sloop, 26.1 TM length, 26.1 OA, 20.7 WL., br'dth 7.2, depth 4.5, draft 3.5 (what is "depth"?), designed A Westmacott. Off No. 149546.

Thanks for the assistance.I will be at the boat on thursday armed with a tape measure ! When i bought her early last summer i was told she was an unverified HB 1937, LOA 22ft .8ft beam. I think it was pretty general though !

Best find the Off No. and get measuring !

Thank you ..

Now you have got a wooden boat, I think you had better be prepared to do a lot of "fiddling".......

Otherwise, she will go to hell in a bucket PDQ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mirror to Fireball to Blackwater sloop to Susan with a number of plastic tubs in between...

I have fiddled many an hour !

Thanks for all the posts.
