Is Scuttlebutt turning into Lounge 2?

Is this still a sailing forum?

Whilst agreeing that non-boaty subjects ought properly to be posted in the Lounge, I'd be reluctant to condemn anyone for doing otherwise, as I'd then feel guilty about forcing them in there. I've noticed on the odd occassion when I've strayed in, that the children in there can be quite nasty; particularly if you don't hold the 'right' opinion, or even worse, if you should fail to pay due homage to those members who like to consider themselves the king/queen bees.

Never go to the lounge so I welcome a bit of off-piste here. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. You don't have to tune in to a thread if it gets onyertitz. After all, I don't open anchoring/ensign threads any more.

And I just posted a thread on the 2010 blizard still to come - however there appears to be no interest in it........

as for climate change - webcraft please show the increase in CO2 as a % of the whole atmosphere and not as the % increase in the truly tiny amount of CO2 in the atmosphere! Its most misleading - and part of the inconvenient truth that it is not CO2 thats causing global warming.....

Aye, Tolstoy summed it up:
"...because he considered it necessary to win him on his side, (he) showed off his dispassionate reasonableness before Prince Andrew and flattered him with the subtle flattery which goes hand in hand with self assurance, and consists of the tacit assumption that ones companion is the only man besides oneself capable of understanding the folly of the rest of mankind and the reasonableness of ones own ideas."

Still, non boaty posts on Scuttlebutt get right up my nose, and now I am doing it.

Yes. This forum is supposed to be about "Chat about cruising". It says so on the header.

So, to start you all off......

Not so Chris, it is very interesting and quite relevant to boating, just waiting for the Docs reply, you were asking a question that needed a specialist reply, not quite the same as "how deep is the snow on your drive"

Bang on target bob . I think the Lounge should be renamed "Pauline and her vegetables" forum !!

Well for once I do .. Sometimes you just want to express an opinion to the wide open world and not just to those who log on to see the lounge .. The lounge does seem a strange place on occasions and a topic can certainly receive very mixed views before being hijacked and go completely off topic ..

So for once Sailorman I agree ..

**** me :o:o:o

Ooops - sorry about the "How deep is the snow!" won't do it again - promise.

Actually for some reason, I feel quite uncomfortable posting on the lounge. I am not a literary genius, and everyone is so erodite.......

Shouldn't this be in the Lounge?

Actually, I rather liked it before the lounge existed and slightly more restraint was exercised? modified? It gave a bit more fiz to what can be rather dull and worthy posts. Like mine.

Erodite comes in two tubes I think. Sets like **** to a blanket.

When my dad was alive, anything and everything in the house was repaired, made, reconstructed with the stuff. When we cleared out my mum's house in Sydney, we threw away a fortune in resin repaired ornaments, furniture, picture, tools, fishing rods and even cheap jewellery. We also discovered that the balcony was repaired with it....after it fell off.

We can trace this obsession to when London Bridge was being replaced and he learned that the new bridge was glued together with epoxy. If it was good enough for London Bridge, it was good enough for him.

Is this Drift a Thread?
