hi guys. Very new boat owner here, bought a boat in June used it for a few weeks here in the UK, radio was working fine, and really clear. Drove the boat to Spain, and I cant get it to work properly. When I press the button in, and say something, I never ever get a response, but I have heard someone else talking on the radio a couple of times, but I cant seem to pick up anything, is there something else that I should be doing, thank you, Karen

give this a try:
turn the volume up a bit and decrease the squelch level until you get the white noise sound. Then increase the squelch level until the noise just stops. Try calling the marina on channel 9 and see what happens.
edit: press the talk button and hold it down......

When you press the transmit button, check to see if any symbols/letters such as Tx or T appear in the display.

Check the co-ax cable from the antenna to the radio hasn't come loose on your travels.
+1

Guessing mast was down for the trip to Spain? Make sure the plug was put back in when the mast was put back up? Not sure if the aerial was removed for the trip - so check the connections there, and that the aerial was replaced correctly..?

I had something not dissimilar on my vhf once which turned out to be a poor electrical connection on the power feed. Enough juice got through for reception but once it demanded more power for transmit it gave out a very poor crackly signal.
