The wife bought me a new spinnaker for Christmas...

We did not supply any measurments and the sail maker did not ask for any...

Tried using it today and found it to be a couple of meters short of the mast head.

I have emailed the sail maker and will wait for his reply...

What do you guys think. ???

Top picture is a spinnaker, bottom a cruising chute, different animals.

Spinny picture, size looks to be about right but method of deployment seriously awry!

Do you have a spinnaker pole and all the assorted gubbins? If not further expenditure required.

Certainly looks like a spinnaker rather than a chute. Has the maker mixed his orders up?
Will work though with the expense of pole, sheets, guys etc. Do you have a birthday soon?

Hard to be definate from photographs but that is a cruising chute to me. It is too narrow at the mid point to be a spinny. A chute could have a little more line on the tack to lift her clear of the rails and that would move the head closer to the mast, but she does look a liitle short in the luff. That said my spinny is short on the luff and it sets well with a little effort.

It looks like a cruising chute to me but clearly the measurements are wrong. The head of the sail needs to be very close to the halyard exit on the mast or the sail be be unstable.

If it is a spinnaker it looks like it might be the right size as it would fly, say a metre higher with a pole and all the other gubbins needed.

Sounds like you need to go back to your sail maker. Surprised that they didn't ask for measurements. Don't be fobbed off by them!

I'm not knocking the sail maker YET....the quality is fantastic and I am very impressed with it. The Snuffer is also great.

I am wondering if it is for a Parker 21 and not the Parker 235 I have.

I only posted to comfirm that it is not right for the boat.

As said I have emailed them and will wait till the holiday period is over before I ring them.

i second this. 1st pic standard spinny 2nd pic cruising chute, what presisely do you want ? if spinny then do you have pole and the facillity to adjust height setting also associated cordage eg sheet & guy if not you need to spend more at the swindlers shop.

next point is that shouldent the tack of chute be sequred to an ajustable line from the stem head and not directly to the stem head allowing the foot to be clear of the pulpit i may have saved an article on setting a chute if i can find it i will send it in a pm. ah! i have found the article by kemp sails pm on its way
