is my MMSI number my selcall number?

trying to amend my radio licence on the OFCOM website but instead of giving me fields to edit i seem to have to start from scracth and one of the first questions is do I have a selcall number. they gave me an MMSI number but why don't they call it that?

unless its something different. i also have to state the number of lifeboats - should I class my liferaft as 1?

can't remember it being that difficult when i applied on line first time round

You can edit your licence by clicking on Amend licence details on the Overview page.

You do have to run through all the pages though but only changing where necessary.
You must have an entry wherever the *appears but it accepts 0 as the number of lifeboats.

It has changed dramatically for the better since first introduced ( the first version was dreadful) and there have been some minor changes since but I don't see it as more difficult.

Selcall was a system for making automated 'link-calls' through coast radio stations, rather than having to wait in a queue and then talk to the radio operator. Essentially it was just like a telephone number and used tone-signalling over the VHF channels. Long defunct in UK.

I have no idea whatsoever why they would ask you if you had a Selcall number - perhaps they are still in use in some parts of the world, and it's just to maintain a database (ITU) of anything useful in an emergency.

You get assigned a MMSI number with a licence, if your using a new application process, you can't add the MMSI, you'll get a new one.

Yep you are right.

If you add a DSC radio to an existing licence that triggers it!

Forgotten that!

It then appears on the front page of the new licence when you print it out.

selcall different from mmsi . i have not heard selcall being used much now (link calls vhf) I seem to remember you had to have an account somewhere for the calls to be charged to ?
