hi folks i have a mariner 1980 25hp 2 smoke and feels like its lost alot of power over its lifetime, i struggle to plane and its mounted on a small 12ft dory, max speed is about 14kn with just me, fuel and small tool kit and 50ah battery, once 2 people onboard with anchor rods tackle it maxes out at 9kn at WOT and engine is struggling and being maxed out everywhere i go and wont plane at all with any load and drags its back end.

Would there be any way to regain lost power or (modify) i.e larger carbs etc to try to get this engine back to its former glory?

Cheers guys

Carb had a full strip and rebuild 12 weeks ago, was sort of debating some seafoam treatment ran in fuel tank but abit scared incase the carbon inside the pots are helping me keep conpression and running that might cause further problems....i took your advice BRUCEK and ordered a prop this morning off ebay and is the identical one that was on motor originally so hopfully will see some differance.Screenshot_20200918-221416_eBay.jpg

2 strokes don't last forever -how easy is it to start when its properly hot. You could have lost some compression through wear etc.

It normally starts 1st crank when up to temp with an odd cough which kills it then starts second attempt, from cold its 1st to second crank every time, do you think its worth spending the money on a compression tester? Ive been putting it off because how often it will be used
