I gather a big driver for this is the introduction of smoking bans in pubs. It was pointed out that there could well be an explosion of thames based boats offering a short cruise, with incidentally a bar onboard, and being a vessel, not subject to a smoking ban..... government fear was that this would undermine their entire strategy..... damn shame they spotted it if you ask me... nowt wrong with a little subversion every now and then.....

Excellent idea, they should widen it to private yachts as well. Like you have to arrange isolated smoking area for example it could be a dinghy towed in minimum of 100m distance. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We already have a no-smoking rule on the boat!
Its a simple choice, come sailing or have a fag! As yet nobody has complained! and if they do they can sod off! cause its our boat!

The expected loss of revenue through people giving up smoking has already been taken into account though . Wasn't it considerate of HMG to bring in the new tax on diesel to coincide with the losses that'll probably kick in at about the same time

Perhaps We should adopt the rules in California.

Interestingly today I was chatting to a customer who spent His Youth in the top end of Scotland (not that the scenario didn't happen in other parts of Britain in a more sensible Era) He referred to His memory banks about a Bod alighting His bus carrying a shotgun with two brace of rabbits adorning His person, nobody batted an eye lid in those days.

Pubs full off smoke, decent beer, Bobbies on the street, Railways that worked,Education system that worked, NHS System that worked and people had work.
