....... at Shotley ?. I hope so, as it has been a giggle the past few years, and if the weather is kind, I might start the boat move to Portsmouth on the 1st/2nd. What say we ...... ?.

New Year at Shotley? Possibly:). (We're hoping to be sailing out of there over Christmas.)

Will have to check it out over the coming days.

Even if we're there I'm afraid we won't be able to offer you a berth, Lisa, as our only spare berth is unusable at the moment.

(p.s. Won't Shotley be Scoldley at New Year?;))

Its our plan to be there if the weather is niceish.....

Hopefully evening in the ship.... fireworks... then a sail the next day...

Should be 5 of us plus the dog..

The weather is only of secondary importance at Shotley.....

Planning to spend New Year's Eve on board, but will most likely stay in our berth at Fox's. Vic's laying on something special.

Followed by New Year cruise on the 1st.

Will be there for YNE, along with at least two other berth holders not yet mentioned, as we have for the past few years. Must get some rock salt for the pontoon just in case. Also probably a run up to Haven for the couple of days before NYE if only to make some room in the holding tank.

We will be there, always been a good evening and the Pyrotechnics are excellent.

I took this bit of footage a couple of years ago but the fumes from the beakers of Whisky from the folks in front of me made me feels little tipsy so I had to pack it in. :)

Nye fireworks

In previous years the Harwich Lifeboat Crew have arranged the firework display in the harbour between Harwich and Shotley and a fantastic job they have made of it too. However due to health and safety/insurance issues they are unable to continue and have handed over the mantle to the Rotary club who are willing to try and keep the event going but need YOUR help to do so.
After it was obvious that the display was getting a lot bigger than the original lifeboat crew families get-together (The spectators on Harwich quay and Shotley started to grow each year from a few dozen to litterally hundreds) they decided to start having collection buckets to raise the money to cover the costs of the fireworks for the following year. Unfortunately many of those who wanted to enjoy the display each new years eve didn't seem to want to contribute a few pence towards it so there has been a significant shortfall which, luckily for this year, a local company in Harwich has come forward to make up the cost. if you would like the celebrations to continue then please throw a pound or two in the buckets as if everybody who watched put a pound in then we could enjoy a fantastic display every year. there are collection buckets located at 'Shotley Sailing Club' and 'The Shipwreck' on the Suffolk side as well as collectors walking amongs those watching in Harwich.

Thanks for the update Biff.

Sad to hear lets hope a few more people put their hands in their pockets and keep the display going.

In previous years as has been said the fireworks were incredible they must certainly have cost a fortune.

A most enjoyable evening in The Shipwreck, excellent meal; thanks Sarah, Gail and staff.

I can confirm the Fireworks were up to their spectacular previous standard and happily folks looked to be putting some cash into the collection bucket on the bar.

Hopefully these will continue for future years.
