Is a ping pong ball the best ball to see flow inside a strainer with see-through lid

I never came across a strainer where you can't distinguish if the water is flowing or not, with just a bit of practice.
I mean, also when there's nothing inside it to emphasize the water movement.
You have obviously not encountered the VP design which has a black top? Impossible to see through! In addition I have underwater exhausts so a quick look to see if water is coming out doesn’t work either.

A ping pong ball and deodorant ball are both very light so will sit right against the top of the strainer. I think I will try and print a sphere with a density so that it stays suspended in the water.

Harken do a strainer ping pong ball. It’s identical to a normal ping pong ball but has Harken written on it. £299.95 from all good chandlers. You’d be mad to use anything else.

By the way, what are to day ping pong balls made of?
I remember a few centuries ago they were of celluloide (English translation?) and, when dented, one refurbished them by dipping them in boiling water.

Since 2015 they have been made of a plastic polymer, prior to that from celluloid (like old movie-film stock, and equally inflammable).

Thanks Alan,
I expected celluloid was no more used. Together with Bakelite, it was one of the first man made stuffs used in a time when anything was made either of wood or iron. I can remember its smell.
