My mate had 30hp suzuki on a avon 345 rib, it would pull a skier easy but dont know about dory, it may be too heavy, power to weight ratio not as good I think, suggest a bit more hp I think probably a 50 will do the trick.

When i wer a lad we borrowed a CJR cathederal hull boat with a 35hp on it (Similar hull to dory and about same power to weight ratio)

I was trying one of the very first surfboard type things called a Banzai board- it would pull me but to give the boat a chance to get on the plane I used to have to hold around 40ft of coiled rope and scooter start the thing.

Very spectacular but not much good for beginers.

Modern wakeboards have a lot more volume so I think it should pull a kid, but you might have to stick a nice heavy adult in the bow.

You can do all the shiftin' the weight around etc, but don't bother, you will always want a bigger engine, so bite the bullet and buy a 50!

Re: not at all sure

starting a wakeboard is like pulling a small coffee table through the water. If the person on it is good, then you might get away with it, but years ago, our old 12' Fletcher struggled with a 60hp o/b and a wakeboard...
