Iron filings all over Play d'eau

If one is sensitive to criticism I'd suggest that internet forum moderation is not a good hobby to choose.

To be fair, John Morris has done his level best to keep this important thread alive and essentially unaltered. I don’t always agree with what he says, but on this occasion he’s definitely one of the good guys. The problems lie elsewhere.

I would like to point out that the post to which you refer wasn't "deleted by the Mods", nor do the Mods dish out points - ever. If you have a complaint, please take it up via the appropriate channels and please cease insulting the Volunteer Moderators.
Thank you.

Rod.
Rod, I apologise. When I referred to "mods" I meant the generic group of folks who control the forum, and without knowing the management hierarchy (as I now do, a bit) I wasn't able to be specific as between volunteer mods and "ForumAdmin". I now realise the difference, so as I say I apologise for saying "mods" and appearing to criticise you and the other volunteer mods.

"ForumAdmin" is the user name from which I received the PMs telling me off when I was merely quoting someone else, and which awards me my ever increasing points. I have either 3 or 6, depending on whether they're cumulative :)

+1 Also to be fair JM has the courage to stand up as an identifiable forum Mutton Shunter, which means he sometimes gets unfairly targeted, even when he's trying to help.

Mutton Shunter: friendly Victorian term for a policeman!

You're a bad boy JFM. I only got an advisory for my transgression and I was quoting far worse. :D

C'est la vie. There is no justice in this world :p

In that case I'm doomed. Profanity has become my native first language ever since I bought an old tub and decided I'd do the work on her myself.

You've got plenty of other words to choose from besides the f's and c's and, (especially in the Lounge) you can fill your boots with all sorts of choice language.

Regarding your boat, I'm sure that you're fond of the old tub and its awesome power, but in the words of the last verse of a well known hymn, when on the forums it has to be

O measureless Might,
Ineffable Love,
...

:D :encouragement: Understood. Will set up a harmony on the hard. You should see my neighbours boat. He has plenty to sing about.

From a completely different POV,
assuming all's fine, none is sent on hard leave or whatever the term was (last remember it on Deleted User), may I ask a question to all:

how can this thread be useful to others, how is someone meant to search to find all this important info on legal action against marinas, etc etc?
Leaving aside the fact that a new visitor will probably get bored way before reaching the important bits, is anyone going to come across it if for example his problem was droplets of paint, or whatever?
Shouldn't we spent more time clearing up things and getting the right keywords for searching them?

Thank you. It is clear that many don't have a clue how the forum works and appreciate the important distinction between the Moderators, who are forumites that have stepped up to the plate to implement the rules/Ts&Cs set by Time/YBW - under the supervision of and supported by the Forum Admin Team (FAT) - and "Admin". FAT is answerable to the Digital Editor, and issues advisory notices and infractions in accordance with the guidance at http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?432996-Points-Mean-Prizes-Win-a-free-Holiday-. FAT is one individual who seems to work 24x7 and his name is Mike.
As John has already said, if you think the rules or Ts & Cs need updated please contact the Digital Editor.

Regards,

Rod

Ha, Ha. I wouldn't suggest that a career in stand-up is calling.

I say again: if one is sensitive to criticism I'd suggest that internet forum moderation is not a good hobby to choose.

When I was flying for BOAC in the 70s, we were number 18 in a long, long waiting queue for take-off at New York, Kennedy. Someone in the queue made an taxying error and whether it was he or someone else, the words came over the radio, 'Oh S**t.' The radio went deathly silent. Then Kennedy Tower called up, saying, 'The airplane which said that word will identify itself.' Silence. Again, 'The airplane which said that word will identify itself.' Silence. 'The airplane which said that word will identify itself, immediately. We do not tolerate such language.' Suddenly, a series or replies came back, 'Pan Am 241 didn't say s**t.' 'TWA 938 didn't say s**t.' Lufhansa 73 didn't say s**t.' 'Air France 2653 didn't say merde.' 18 planes responded. Flights decks must have been laughing and laughing. I wonder who won?

There is no like button but I like this post. It kind of sums up the BS that is being applied here to JFM's posts. Are we not all adults here in this forum. Perhaps the T&Cs need a re-work so that the participants can have reasonable adult conversations here whilst imparting really useful information rather that glibly applying the rules whether they are being applied by a volunteer or not.

Time will tell whether that's what is being argued for in the background...

Photos (at last) taken from various places around Play d'eau before leaving Beaucette. Not a pretty sight. Even the rubbing strakes were covered.

She is currently at Marine and General's yard at St Sampson's. Costs are rising somewhat not the least because a crane will need to be brought in to dangle a 'person cage' to reach the top of the pony mast. Meanwhile, the topsides (waterline to caprails) have been done, which still leaves an enormous amount or real estate yet to be done. The yard's been hindered by the weather.

We just hope the works at Beaucette Marina will have been completed before we take her back.

It was also nice to see both gennys at the Power Station fire-up the motors 100 yards away from you this week. I'm working across the marina from you Piers, polishing boats too. Fallout in St. Sampsons is an ongoing problem we have to live with there.
