Ipswich lock

Came through Tuesday/Wednesday. Only a couple of lock in/outs and we were told leaking gates and it was to keep marina levels. It was very slow to fill!

Yes. Glad we didn't visit Ipswich this weekend. Only 5 lock in and 5 lock outs Saturday and Sunday with restrictions this week. They need to spend a bit of money on lock, gates and mechanism before they start building a new marina. Worst restrictions I've noticed for many a year and ongoing this week.

I think I would be somewhat peeved if my berth was in the Haven. The Orwell Lady trip boat had to berth at Fox's recently because of the current state of play.

Up and down our beloved East Coast, pleasure sailors are suffering. As soon as the commercial pressures go , locks, bridges and dredgers are either lost, or are hit and miss. It's probably inevitable and something we have to live with.

It would be nice to think that the Crown Estate tax that we all have to pay, goes towards maintenance. Does anyone know where it actually goes ?

Perhaps Charles Stock got it right all along. Buy a boat with a lifting rudder and keel for shallow sailing plus an easily downed and upped mast. :)

It goes to the Treasury. Way back in the 18th century, the monarch traded his rights in sea beds and other Crown properties for what we know call the Civil List. Over the years, the income from the Crown Estates has vastly exceeded the Civil List, so the nation got a good deal!

If only the UK spent money on the UK like Europe invested into the UK outer cities infrastructure, as opposed to robbing its outer cities and funneling the money all into London..
