Depends what you want it for...

If you want a quick easy indication of where you are and excellent tidal info go for Navionics.

If you want to be able to plan passages and calculate routes then I believe iNavX is the best out there.

I'm a user of Navionics at the moment, but if Santa brings an iPad for me then iNavX would be my weapon of choice...

2 parts.

Re sim, very difficult to say, depends on your usage pattern. For occasional sporadic use < 1 gb a month then 3 is about £6pm, PAYG .

Usage when in plotter mode is nil as charts are held in memory. ( not so with inbuilt maps app.)

I pay £10 per month for unlimited internet, 250 mins, umlimited texts and free same network calls

They do other plans as well including data plans for tablets and dongles

No connection just like to pass on info
