I now have an iPad which to me is great news, I was looking forward to reading the boating magazines that I regularly read physically in paper form, however when I went to download the app it was not possible because I had not bought the latest iPad. The iPad I bought I just 3 years old, an ipad 1 - like new, and I have access to many other mags which I can download and read. None of the IPC boating magazines titles work as it does not have IOS 6, it has IOS 5.1 however the other magazines from IPC offer an earlier download instead of the latest to make them work. When you think that Apple sold 3 million of the earlier IPad 1 tablets am I the only one to ask this question. Are iPad 2 users going to be unable to use them in ....2 years time. Perhaps in 2 years time an earlier download will be offered so that iPad 2 users won't have to ditch them. if you have a solution other than buying the latest iPad let me know.

Thanks.

Thanks for that, I have been unable to download Motor Boat and Yachting, Yachting Monthly and Yachting World. However I have been able to download other IPC titles and other non IPC boating mags.

I'm afraid I'm not great with tech but have you tried using newsstand (which I think is a non removable app built into the software)....

I do have the iPad 1and have no trouble buying and reading the magazines. I do however use the Zinio application. Within the application, you can buy single issues or take a subscription. So far no issues and have been reading MBY and some other international boating magazines on it. I hope this helps. I believe the app is free.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues accessing the magazines. Are you trying to buy the mags through Apple's Newsstand or via the Zinio App?

Thanks,

Jack

Jack, I am a magazine subscriber, but cannot access MBY on my iPad. Newstand wants me to take out a separate subscription. Any solutions?

This is a very unsatisfying and frustrating answer so I apologise in advance but it's company policy, I'm afraid. They are two separate subs, buying one doesn't give free access to the other.

Has that changed from previous? I thought if you had a paper subscription you got the electronic one too?

Indeed which is why the publisher of it always raves how good our offerings are ! ... It's a good mag but local to the Bay Area so really only of interest who sail in and around San Fransisco.

Agree many but not all of the ads are aimed at local sailors but the articles are fresh and cover a wide range of worldwide cruising interests. Anyway it's 144 pages, most of which are of some interest, so well worth a read and of course
it's free and no doubt with a huge circulation all paid for by ads. Wonder when IPC boating mags will go this way?
