I have an iPad2 with wifi and 3G connectivity. Navionics app for the Mediterranean has been working well until very recently. Now it fails to find us, often defaulting our position to what I assume is the nearest 3G transmitter. IPad system is a total mystery to me, can anyone point me in the right direction to restore it, please?

Most sudden problems with Apple products can be fixed by rebooting. I think you shut down by holding down the sleep button then swiping the shut down bar when it appears after 5 or 10 seconds.

Mine has been useless today, I recently installed a navionics update, it seems to be crashing the gps / location services on my ipad, tried reboot ipad, no improvement.

+1 had nothing but heart ache with it last week on a 140 mile leg it crashed numerous times and lost gps position constantly , before the upgrade it had been working fine all over the world .

Currently in saigon vietnam and its working intermitantly with a seperate gps feed, im not reliant on it obviously but it was a nice to have , easy to see in the wheel house display ...hey ho

Thanks for the input. I have rebooted countless times, no improvement. I believe I cannot enable the program without connecting to iTunes on the laptop, which I do not have here. GPS is currently displaying my position on both Maps and Navionics but experience to date has been that this will not continue. I will continue to monitor.

Garmin do a nice GPS and cheap too that would be better.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
Its worth persisting with all the suggestions as most of these are software errors, but if it is a hardware problem, many crusers use one of these with their non GPS equipped iPads, so it should solve the problem.
They connect via Bluetooth, or plug into the port, depending on the model.
