Invitation from RYA\'s Training Manager
[ QUOTE ]
If you would like to discuss why the RYA does what it does please give me a call ???? ?????? or email me. I don't pretend we get it right every time but a lot of what we do is on the basis of feedback from our instructors.

This popped up in my PM Inbox today....
D'you ever get the feeling that 'someone' is watching you? It seems that the poster is a certain 'Alert', a new user from Feb 2006, who 'lurks', reading but not contributing.
(Chorus of "Behind you! Behind you!" from regular forumeers.... )
I'm certainly not an unthinking fan of everything the RYA does and fails to do. Many years ago, persuaded to serve on one of their committees, I made the quip that "There are two sorts of yachties on the RYA Council - them with yellow wellies and them with green wellies". The Chair of that particular committee was a well-known Gloucestershire farmer and socialite, 'a safe pair of hands', who used to recount - frequently - how he'd waved 'Good morning' to the RYA's President that very morning, driving down the lane. Didn't get invited to the cocktail party, did I.....?
And their self-interested maneuvering during the Recreational Craft Directive consultations left a sour taste in a number of mouths, including a highly-respected past Editor of PBO Magazine.
I'm aware from conversations that quite a few instructors and principals of sea-schools do not feel consulted, and left in the dark about a range of policies and 'diktats' from RYA Towers. Others are very well pleased with individuals' inputs to their businesses. Maybe it's all just a 'communications thing'.
I stopped going to the Shorebased Conferences, for example, for they were effectively just a one-way channel to communicate the 'party line' - and that could be done cheaper by post.
However, there are regular quessies and grumps on here about the RYA's 'moving in mysterious ways'. Here is an invitation from one of their 'illuminati', and I'd like to suggest that the Forum Managers - Keith Hollamby, are you there? - gets him on 'ere to answer your questions. Like the one that started this thread - 'Birdseye : new RYA training charts : #1278488 - 13/12/2006 19:54'
It's some years since these forums had someone from the RYA in the hot seat, and given the dearth of articles in the mags of late, maybe this is an idea who's time has come.
If you think so, let someone know......
