Inverter Cut Out

FWIW no luck over the W/E.

What I can't understand is that, on power up, I get 30 secs of A/C before it cuts out.

If I power up and wait 30 secs before switching on an A/C load I get nada.

(In both cases the status light goes out.)

My thanks for all efforts to solve this problem. I'll post again if I eventually do find a fix.

Thanks Seamaster but, if that is the case, I presume it would not work at all?

Actually no...dry solder joints are the most common cause of intermittant faults. The fact that it works for 30 secs suggests to me that the fault may be temperature sensitive, so it could be a dry joint that makes contact when its cold but opens up as soon as the board, or one of the components, gets warm. You could try getting a can of freezer spray from Maplins, CPC, or another electronics supplier, and see if spraying any part of the board or components temporarily cures, (or at least delays the onset of), the fault. If so then experiment further and try and find exactly where you have to spray to do this, and that may help pinpoint exactly which joint or component is faulty. Also try flexing the board or tapping components with the handle of a screwdriver to try and trace/narrow down the faulty region. (Don't, of course, electrocute yourself !!)
Also...are there any pcb plugs, sockets, or edge connectors? If so scrub these in and out a few times to scrape off any possible corrosion.

That certainly seems worth a try for an 18 month old £600+ piece of kit! Thanks very much. Got a Maplin a few doors down from my office.

Back to the garage when I get home tonight!
