International Woodskin

& thats why i havnt, i will try to find a photo of the area concerned

I notice that they recommend a a long haired bristle brush. What you are using ?

Ive not used Woodskin but I used Cetol Marine for several years and have enough to see me out so very unlikely to ever try Woodskin

The Cetol is a little bit different to apply compared with ordinary varnish. It contains a small amount of pigment so variations in the film thickness as you apply it are maybe a little more obvious although I'd not call it "brush marks". I cant say I have noticed if t dried particularly quickly although not slow to dry I guess.

I used that for a similar job as you are using the Woodskin for. Grab rails and hatch surrounds. Best of the various finishes and snake oils I'd tried over the years.

I have similar on our boat.

Do the large areas first, then the handles and any other tricky details.

It is easy to work Woodskin quickly-I get better results that way.

Biggest problem I have had was leaving the tape on too long-the residue is a bugger to get off!

I dont use tape now, but a piece of polycarbonate helmet visor with a straight edge which is cleaned after every edge has been done with a white spirit dampened cloth.

the brush marks are not really obvious but it is impossible to maintain a wet edge, i have been using a good quality brush with synthetic fibres

I use similar brushes, but do not experience your problem.

Can only assume that the work is being carried out in strong direct sunlight.

The brightwork-thats what the Yanks call the teak trim-on our boat has had seven coats over three years without having your problem.

I am away on the boat untill late September and will touch up the Woodskin where required, and re-do the companionway and hatch surrounds which only got three coats.

I will need to use a fresh tin which I purchased last month-perhaps the contents will differ from what I used before.

I hope not..............................

i have used in bright sun & o/c.
i am really just having issues with a lack of a wet edge due to the grab handles

Hi I am having a similar problem but I am using cetol teak color. I am having problems getting a uniform application. It seems to be difficult not to get a blotchy dark areas. The wet edge does not last long at all. I did not apply it in direct sun but it's hot here 29C in Torrevieja Spain. Using a foam brush I go over the dark areas again to even the color out.
I remember the first time I used it (at least 2 years ago) it went on great. I think it was a lot cooler. Comparing the color in the old can vs the new can it seems it is very dark. I will try the new can to see if the results are any different as I think the old can may have gone bad. Also I have noticed not all foam brushes are created equal.
