Yet again, I've opened a tin of Perfection two pack paint to find that the barely used 'B' tin has gone off and turned solid. Grrr. I stocked up on Europe where it's only €45, here in the Caribbean it's more than double that.
So now I've had to open my final new tin, which thankfully was still good.
I've read that the B component is highly hygroscopic which is why it goes off so quickly after opening.

Any tips on better ways to store it? I've heard of flooding the tin with propane but that's not really feasible on a boat. What about just decanting in to smaller containers so there's no air space? Or would the action of handling it cause more exposure to the air?

For now, I've just made a small hole and dribbled out the quantity I needed, then sealed the hole and kept the can upsidedown. The idea being that no air should have entered the can. But it's not a long term solution.

At least here in Germany, Perfection is mostly out of stock. I managed to score one of the last cans of Undercoat today. Seeing some internet commentary saying that Perfection is discontinued. I hope what we have is enough for painting the Spindrift...

Yes I have had the same problem with polyurethane paints. The paint it self seems to last for many years after being opened. The hardener goes hard and uselss after a year or 2 in best sealed way. My paint supplier will sell the hardener separate but still quite expensive. I just use the paint for touch up year after year. Not a brilliant finish but adequate and repairable. I thin OP handling of the opened hardener is the best he could hope for. ol'will

Thread drift, which version of the Spindrift are you building? Are you on the B&B forum?

So I've heard that Awl Cat #3 is the same stuff, and available separately.

Does anybody know if it's just as short lived as Perfection? It's not cheap 😮
