Runners Deleted User, runners :D

They're for staircases, surely?

And Mike, presumably your young relative will be back onboard again this year, why not leave the repair until after the next lot of damage, no point in doing it twice :D:D

No way. When's he old enough to bring some nubile young females with him, then I may reconsider

Whats that, Pete?

Get yourself onto the "You Tube", might need the assistance of a 13 year old to get you started. Do a search for "vinyl smart repair". Lots of results like...

Smart repairs are the generic terms for companies like "Dents away", "Chips away" but there are similar firms that repair leather, vinyl, trim (e.g. filling dashboard holes left by mobile phone kits, etc).

Funny, my sister is a textile designer in Ireland and some of her biggest sellers are table runners. I couldn't care for them at all!
Well I learn something new every day. Isn't the whole point of a table cloth to stop you messing up the table and if so, why cover only half of it?

Pete,

I'm afraid it wont work!

What I think (and judging from mine) Mike has, is vinyl STRETCHED over a 3 or 5mm foam. Kid probably only did a simple cut that now shows as a 5mm gap. I cannot see how still being on and stretched, some magic material will cover the gap, not mess with the underlying foam AND stretch AGAIN once it sets... That's sci-fi that is!

Mike, cannt the ppl in Ferretti give away the name of the producer of this textile ffs??? what do they want, to reupholster the whole boat for you in their new colours??? I'm mean there's no fcking way the material is not available, they just stopped dealing with them and they don't care!

maybe someone else knows someone in the factory and could help? [ok, that's the greek way of thinking, but works sometimes :D ]

Thanks Pete. I found a 13yr old who told me all about You Tube. Fascinating, isn't it? All those dirty movies. Anyway, I digress. I don't think this smart repair is going to work for my panels as the covering material I have is very soft, like a soft calf leather, and sanding it would just tear it and in any case, the damage is just too big I think

Fundamentally, yes Vas, thats what they want to do. Ferretti offer a factory refurbishment service but then you're talking megabucks and they want to rebuild the whole boat. I guess in 20yrs time, my boat might go through that process but not yet (I hope)

Ok, since my previous lateral thinking on how to turn a problem into an opportunity was not appreciated, here's a more conventional proposal...

Thanks Mapism, I was thinking about this too. What I think I'm going to do is try to match the material as close as possible and then if that looks naff, fit a wood finish as you suggest or possibly a mirror finish

Pearlescent Gold anyone!

On a more sober note ... if you are looking for contrasting ... go darker.

We also use carpet film ( leave for max 6 weeks or it leaves residue) to keep boat less streesful with our kids over the summer. End of holiday, pull it up and stick it in the bin. Quicker than hoovering!

That pearlescent gold is definitely more yellow than the material I've got. Yes I agree to go darker than lighter. Good tip on the carpet film; not seen that before.

I've alway's wondered what's going on at the PBO forum,
can it be more practical then on here :)

PBO is a bit more nuts and bolts than here Bart. Probably 75% raggies, but no harm in that. You will be unlikely to read of many with super yachts like BA or Match on there either. Some useful electronics advice on there, and if you want a rigger for your mast, definitely the place to go. :)
