Interior panel repair - looking for ideas?

What's behind the panel? I don't think I'd attempt a recover, particularly given the non-availability of the material. If there's clearance available behind the panel (remove the light fitting and have a look with a cheap Maplin boroscope camera) I'd have a couple of suitably-dimensioned timber recessed trays made to suit the existing timberwork in the cabin, and chop them in where the damage is (and other cabin to suit).

Did I say 'magazine rack' anywhere? :D It's an ipad receptacle, innit? Completely different. In fact, Deleted User should pinch a clever idea from Vas and fit usb charging points in the back of the unit, that's definitely a useful thing, and a good place to put it.

Have a look at Tektura or Vescom. They both do commercial grade vinyls which are VERY hard wearing. Some good fake leathers, Ostrich and mock Croc etc. I've used both companies for high end projects - the colours and finishes are good. Easy to use (like wallpaper) and with a sharp scalpel you could achieve a clean finish around the edges. I'd finish three surfaces with the same. Best done by an experienced specialist paper hanger or your factory would know of good vinyl applicator.

Just let that 4yo fill the whole panel with similar scratches, and pretend they were done by Tracey Emin when you invited her onboard.
And when you'll sell the boat, increase the asking price by 100k quids at least.
 
Some excellent ideas, thanks. I didn't think of hiding the damage with a mag rack (sorry Ipod rack) or dummy aircon vent or mirror but there's a bit of a problem with that as the little barsteward damaged the same panel in the other cabin but in a different place so its going to look a bit silly to have an aircon vent or whatever in a different position in each cabin. Whoever mentioned scatter cushions, wash your mouth out with salt and say 50 hail marys please. Recovering all the panels in both cabins would be an expensive nightmare as they all seem to be solidly fixed. Luckily this particular panel seems to be about the easiest of all the panels to be removed.
I am attracted by making the panels a bit of a feature by covering them in alcantara or leather but I think the flower power design is a touch over the top for me. Maybe that's one for the scatter cushion fanciers on here. However its a good point that these cabins are dark inside and colour mismatches won't show up so much. I think what I'm going to do first off is to try to match the colour and texture as closely as I can. Should I go for a lighter shade or a darker shade? Hi Pete I had thought about that option also but the fabric looks pretty bad - Mike try a local Mercedes or similar dealer who can put you directly in touch with the guy they use.
In the first instance speak to a guy in the uk and show him the photos you have taken at least you will be talking the same language ....

Or alternatively google it as I think they have internet now in Italy :rolleyes:

I would have thought also that the boat manufacturer could assist in either providing or pointing Mike in the right direction for some replacement fabric - Good luck with the project Mike.

What ever you decide to do make sure the finished article is vandal {kid} proof :)

Unfortunately, the manufacturer hasn't been very helpful other than confirming they don't use that material anymore and cannot supply it. I am surprised that the yard haven't been able to find a matching material though because there are hundreds of Ferrettis in the Med and somebody must have experienced the same kind of damage as mine. Kids are banned from my boat now. Along with animals, scatter cushions and table cloths that only cover the middle bit of the table
