Hi, I am about to start painting the inside of my 25 ft wood boat, on which I intend to live-aboard when its ready.
Anyone got any tips on the best type of paint and colour to use if I am living on her.

A mate of mine here painted the whole interior (including the deckhead) of his Westerly 22 in bright brothel pink, simply because he had a quantity of this colour knocking around (no, he does not do restorations of brothels for a living...) - but I must admit that it does not look very nice.....

I reckon any nice light, soft colour - an off white or cream seems to work well. If you can set it off with some nice varnished timber edgings or mouldings, then it will really look very nice.

For live aboard, you want as much light colour as possible. The ultimate is gloss white everywhere, but that's a bit harsh.

It's to get as much light bouncing around as possible, and to try and create more of a feeling of space.

i´m currently painting the interior of our boat, I have left the relief work varnished and painted all the rest of the wood bright white. It looks really effective and has really made a big difference and brightened the interior up a lot.

Now don't take this wrong but do you know anyone in the prison service? They have have had this problem studied by professionals so that the colour in a cell helps promote a less stressful environment. I think they use pastel colours. Not that you want to live in a cell though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I used Johnstone's Kitchen and Bathroom paint in Antique Cream for my deck head. Satin finish, not too garish, good cover over the old nasty gloss, and very condensation resistant. Been on for two years with no deterioration, and about 12 quid for 2.5 litres.

I have tried creams, oyster, off white, but I have found I am happiest with satin White. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We used to have a pink cell, lit by a red light, to put violent drunks in. It did the job. Pink has been shown time and again as the most soothing, relaxing warm colour, though I wouldn't fancy it inside my boat.

As for the inside of my boat; just replacing the dark varnish on the buklheads with white paint (leaving varnish on the edge trim) made all the difference.
