Interfacing Yeoman Plotters to GPS

Has anyone tried to interface a Yeoman Plotter to a Magellan Sportrak GPS. Having followed the diagrams in both manuals, I have produced a cable to connect the two. The GPS is sending the position to the Yeoman alright, but the waypoints and current steer are not appearing on the GPS like the man in the shop said would happen.

The connections appear simple.
GPS Yeoman Power supply
Pin 2 (Data OUT) White (Data IN)
Pin 3 (Data IN) Green (Data IN A)
Blue (DATA IN B) 0v
Pin 5 (Gnd) Thin Black (Gnd) 0v
Red 12v
(Done from memory, I am in the office and the kit is at home)

But no waypoints or steers. The GPS has three NMEA settings, the only one that works is '2.1'

Any ideas, anyone?

Angus

I don't know your GPS but I had a similar problem with mine. In the end it turned out to be that I needed to set the GPS to send and receive NMEA. It may be worth checking this out on yours.

Once set up for correct data I had no trouble sending from GPS to Yeoman. However, I haven't been able to send way points from Yeoman to GPS (Garmin 45). Any help out there, please?

Just had a look at the Garmin 45 manual on their website. It looks like you're out of luck. While it will output NMEA the inputs are None/Garmin/RTCM. Which seems a bit tough really.

I had a couple of problems with sending waypoints to the GPS. The first was the Yeoman has 5 variations on the GPS Interface. I tried each one until one of them worked. This is one of the items you can select in SETUP mode. The second problem is that waypoint 000 is never senrt to the GPS.

Have had Yeoman Plotter since their launch and have had no problems either with initially Trimble and later the Garmin. I found with the Garmin that waypoints are not entered from the chart if you are actually in Waypoint mode on the GPS - change the page and then page back to "Waypoints" then they appear !

Beg to differ with the GArmin 45. I have been using a Yeoman with the GArmin 45, 48,120,128 for many years and never a problem. Ensure you get the correct setup and it will work, I promise.

If you need wiring details then have a look at teh GArmin Website and teh Yeoman Website. If still no joy give me an email on steve@albinvega.com

I hope you're right, for BigART's sake, but that's my reading of the handbook on the website. I must say I was surprised as I had a GPS 75 which functioned fine with the Yeoman. Now the really strange thing is that the GPS 75 manual on the Garmin website in common with the GPS 45 manual only mentions NMEA output and allows RTCM and Garmin inputs only. I could definitely send waypoints up to the GPS 75 from the Yeoman, unfortunately I have not got my GPS 75 manual still as I disposed of it along with the machine.

Oh thats great John!. Forgot to mention that NME 0183 on the Yeoman gives you waypoints 1 - 99 ; NME0183-1 gives waypoints 100 - 199 and NMEA 0183-2 gives 200 - 299. ( i.e. Waypoint 1 on the waypoint in Yeoman NMEA 0183-1 inputs wp 100 on the GPS and similarly again Waypoint 1 on NMEA 0183 - 2 inputs wp 200)
