Interesting times in Argyll

So what was the inshore forecast on the night in question? I was on a non-boaty weekend so not paying attention but can't recall seeing anything particularly dire on the landlubbers forecast.

On a second point, does anyone have further details of the Lismore incident as that's my home patch? Port Ramsay I presume..

F7-8, gusting F9 SW backing S.
The weather observations at nearby Oban Airport (North Connell I presume?) show a maximum windspeed overnight of just under 15 knots (maybe mph) so whatever happened must have been very localised. It doesn't seem to show gusts.

Either that or their anemometer was duff!

A new one on me - thanks. Presumably that is near webber's house?;)

Indeed - he is the self appointed landlord and fee collector and keeps himself busy scrubbing otter poo off the pontoons when not haranguing Ms Sturgeon. He did have a relationship with Ruth Davidson but you'll have to wait for an update on that as its all a bit sub judice. The Vic 92 clyde puffer is also among his list of interests in the Seil Island Whose Who - this is the Debretts Peerage equivalent of the area and naturally, he being the Rupert Murdoch of the district - he gets a decent write-up. Going back to the Puffer - they use him to provide steam when they run short of coal.

I heard Webster was selling Loch Fyne kippers to yachtsmen visiting the pontoons. Has anybody else heard this, or is it a red herring?
One hopes none of them end up with a riding turn on any of his cleits - they can be hard to get off.

Well it would seem that the weather experienced in the pool of the otters has put off a lot of people from going in. So much so that the two of us that are in are feeling very lonely. I can remember a September many many years ago that we were the only boat in.

I'm in Danelandia and whilst I appreciate that we are currently working to Danish Mean Time - surely it is still August in the fair shire of Argyll?

Is that two otters then?

I think there is a view ( evidenced by the fact people are anchoring there on forecasts like last saturday's) that it is a good place to shelter in really bad weather. I don't have my up to date copies of the pilots to hand ( on the boat), but the old one does say "well sheltered". I think its reputation as a 5* anchorage clouds peoples perceptions of it.

To adapt Jasper Carrot's joke[1] (often attributed to John Lennon), Puilladobhran isn't the best anchorage in the world. It isn't even the best anchorage on the west coast of the northern part of mid-Argyll. It has a reasonable pub nearby and an exaggerated reputation amongst tourists.

Been an odd year for wildlife. A few dolphins and porpoises, but haven't noticed any sharks, basking or otherwise, or whales.

Even the seabirds were a bit sparse, although more were about north and west of Ardnamurchan. Mackerel have also seemed thin on the ground so far. They were late arriving.

As I write, there are two shoals of sprats jumping nearby, but only one solitary gull to catch them. Changed days.

Is Jack there?
