Interesting times in Argyll

Been an odd year for wildlife. A few dolphins and porpoises, but haven't noticed any sharks, basking or otherwise, or whales.

Even the seabirds were a bit sparse, although more were about north and west of Ardnamurchan. Mackerel have also seemed thin on the ground so far. They were late arriving.

As I write, there are two shoals of sprats jumping nearby, but only one solitary gull to catch them. Changed days.

Saw a Minke whale in the Sound of Jura last Friday evening on the way back from WHYW. First this season though.

That Minke whale in the Sound of Jura played around and under us for 20 minutes last month in the hot spell while were were becalmed and turned off the engine for a peaceful lunch. It's breath was horribly fishy.

Here's a still from some of the phone video.
