I painted areas of my deck with this about 16-18 month ago. It was applied over pre-kote, took very well and coverage was excellent. It is still well ahead and I have no problem with chipping, flaking or anything like that. I'm also very happy with the grip levels.

What I have found though is that it stains remarkably easily. Any fuel, oil, sunscreen, grease, dirt etc.. will cause horrible staining, much of which cannot be removed.

I still have plenty left and it's an easy job to abrade and over coat. The question is, does Akzonobel/International make something that should be applied over Interdeck to protect it at all, otherwise I'm just wasting my time re-coating.

Ive used Interdeck so I know your problem.

Maybe Hempel's nonslip deck coating would have been better. They claim it is resistant to oil..

Maybe the time honoured gloss paint sprinkled with fine sand would have been better

Maybe you could overcoat your Interdeck with a thin coating of gloss paint.

When PBO tested a range of non slip deck coatings including paint plus sand and paint plus sugar they concluded that Interdeck was the best to keep clean. So maybe we just have to live with it. I have two boats, both done with it.

Cleaning it is actually very difficult, but the real problem is staining. Mine now has patches or yellow, brown, orange, blue, and green. This is just from general use. It's cheap enough and easy enough to do, but it would be better if there was something that could be applied to make it more stain resistant.

I used to use Interdeck but the manufacturer stopped making the colour I liked (a light grey-blue) and now it's a choice between a pure grey or a horrible garish colour called 'squall-blue'.

I tried Hempel Multicoat of the right colour with granules mixed in but that has been unsatisfactory as it scuffs off easily or flakes.

Was it the old Westerly shade you liked? International had a recipe for making that one on their website - white Interdeck with a splash of Oxford Blue gloss. Or you could make me a modest offer for the unopened tin of it I have on my shelf, though most carriers won't take paint from private customers.

I have been out to the garage and found the tin of Interdeck I last used (and liked). It is

Interdeck Pale Blue no. 339

Is that what you have?

Yes, I believe so, although I'm a hundred miles from my workshop. If you are interested and we can work out a way of getting it to you you are very welcome to it for a modest sum. Alternatively, here's the recipe: 4 parts Interdeck grey to 1 part Toplac Oxford blue (https://westerly-owners.co.uk/deck-paint-westerly-colour/)

Well if you can confirm it's Pale Blue 339 I would be interested in buying it.

Interdeck is simply Toplac with the non-slip grains already added.

You can use any of the Toplac colours or mix them.

Toplac is very thin runny, it is also super glossy.

So Interdeck must have a thickening agent plus a matting agent.

I actually have a tub of toplac too. Perhaps if I mix them it will resist staining better.

According to the International technical rep who comes to the yard, Interdeck is Toplac with the additives (which might make it feel thicker and the rough surface makes it look less glossy).

We've used it on hundreds of boats and I've never found it to be susceptible to staining or discolouration.
