Hi. Can any kind soul point me in the right direction as to insurance for my liveaboard yacht. Currently berthed in Italy. I have cancelled my previous insurance, Pantaneius, as the cost is now exorbitant. 22 years no claims. I seek dealing with a company direct, or a good broker. Many thanks.

Not easy as it depends on your circumstances - residence citizenship. Your current (or immediate past) insurer is popular in this market because they operate both inside and outside the EU and specialise in this type of niche insurance. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your response. Not going with the last lot again..... I am British with Italian residence of 12 years. I just cannot find any brokers/Italian companies who insure small vessels. Thanks again.

I'm British with Portuguese residency and boat based here. When doing annual comparison, Pants very little different to the very few others who will cover 12 months in service on mooring.

Hi, I have now. They do not provide cover for anyone "habitually resident in Italy"... wonder why? Thanks anyhow.
Because they do not have a licence to operate in Italy or indeed the EU. You are restricted to EU insurers, but as I said Pantanieus operates in both regulatory areas. Most UK insurers also operate in the EU or are owned by EU companies but operate under different names.

As I recall, insurers tend to specify residence in country of insurance. We insured our liveaboard in Span through Bishop Skinner, but we had a UK address.
I completely failed to insure a Spanish registered car as my only residence was UK.

Thank you all for your advice. To be sure I am following everything up. I have written to an Italian broker recommended by my neighbour and await a reply. Seems I am now being rejected in Italy due to UK flag, or companies do not insure yachts in Italy.
I do not want to go back to Pant' Insurance again for sure after 10 years of nothing other than price increases and poor service.

I feel I have stepped into a nightmare having tried all day yesterday to sort something out. Insurance ends today! .... I live in hope.

I think for the EU it's residence within the EU not a country but then you get jobsworths that don't know the law and try to enforce their version.
