First - thanks to all who gave some good recommendations on road transport in my last post.

I'm now looking for any recommendations for yacht insurance.

I've looked around a bit and found various problems like - we'll only cover you for 9 months afloat etc etc.

Any recommendations?

Thanks, Dave

Purely by luck, I happened on a proper broker - as opposed to the "YTSdirect" sort advertised in the yachting press. You know - the ones where you talk to some young woman in a call center, who has no discretion, no negotiating ability, and no technical knowledge. "Did you say a ketch, sir? I'm sorry, we dont cover motor boats"

Anyway, Mildrew impersonation over, I can recommend Gareth Jones at Heath Lambert, Liverpool on 01512274321. He organised 12 month in the water cover including single handed night sailing at a reasonable premium.

I've found St Margarets very good. They dealt with my claim without question and give a no claims discount.

The Oxford Ditch cruising Club by a quirk of fate own their own Brokerage, this means if you insure via them they return the bulk of the handling commission keeping back only a minor portion as a handling fee. Drop an email to Mike Haley on mhaley@hp235lg.fsnet.co.uk
