Insurance Renewal with Agreed Value now GJW Bought by Ripe - any suggestions

No, but some people have experience of dealing with companies after being sold to RIpe so very useful feedback IMHO
But were the companies offering marine insurance? If so what was the reputation of the former companies?

We still don't have that crystal ball.

A little search around companies house certainly shows ripe as now having a big hand in craftinsure but the same people links don't appear for GJW which is good as I'm with GJW.
Craftinsure did sponsor a link on a website I look after up until this march when suddenly the invoice got ignored and no emails answered so as far as I am concerned craftinsure co go feck themselves, if they don't answer emails about an invoice I don't fancy trying to deal with a claim with them.
When Mark Lee was director craftinsure were good to deal with, it was Mark that originally agreed the sponsorship, but he is no longer in charge it would seem.

With names like Craftinsure and Insure4boats I think they are most likely offering marine insurance, don't you
What were their reputations?

I'm a ex-GJW customer, but now with Pants, GJW when I was with were lovely company to deal with.

As a cynical engineer I find that management take overs are rarely a good move. Hence the question have they taken over any other maritime insurance companies. By the sounds of it they have. You will need to find some of there customers and as them if the move was for the better. They might have an answer.

I notice all the normal things that drop over the side are not covered........, glasses, mobile phones, jewellery (i once had a gold chain caught in the rigging go over and a pair of expensive sun glasses, while getting the anchor up) what do they say, they give you an umbrella and take it back when it starts to rain.

That is because it insurance for the boat - not you and your personal possessions. You can arrange this separately if you so wish.

I have been with GJW for years and no claims. The new owners have just told me that want to up the premium by over 27% this year!

I have £1000 personal property cover tied in with my boat policy with Ripe but the exclusion still applies to the mentioned items.

They are making clear what they are prepared to cover. Most of those items are low value individually and difficult to provide evidence of accidental loss. Just take more care if you know it is your responsibility to replace if lost.

Had a quote from HKJ, the quote is comparable price wise for the same value and they do the option of an agreed value but there policy has considerably more exclusions than the GJW/Ripe policy so I might be better to stay put and hope their claim handling does not deteriorate should I ever need them.

I'm with Craftinsure now part of Ripe. My renewal arrived last week as it's due in early June. The rate increased ~10%, but Craftinsure did pay up without a fuss when I seized my engine in 2022, and disregarded that claim at my renewal last year.
