Hi i was wondering could you give me an approx quote to insure a boat valued at 100k and who is the best companies out there thanks...

Plenty of folks out there online can quote you. I've used EIS (Euromarine Insurance Services) for donkey's years and found them to be fantastic - www.EuroMarine-Ltd.com/Boat/

As to what it will cost you, that depends so much on the boat, the location, your experience. I'd guess somewhere from £500-1000/year would be in the right ballpark, but like I said, many, many factors.

I've used them all - that's the major insurers. But, I found Craftinsure on the internet to be good value for your sum involved. They also are consistent on renewal (subject to claims) unlike the others whom try and hike your premium up each year.

If you don't like their teritorial limits or have a question then just call them and they can adapt the policy for you.

You can get a figure on line in minutes with craftinsure so have a go there.

About 650-750 ish for 100k boat in UK Marina. Does depend on NCB and a few other factors - but shouldnt be much more than this. You can get a quote instantly from cover- my-boat, though I moved to GJW this year.

I have used Porthcawl insurance for years. Had quotes from others to check the level of cover etc and for the past 5 - 6 years they have always been very competative. Only thing missing has been cover on water toys but this doesnt effect me.
I have always found them good and easy to deal with when ever I have had a problem.
HOWEVER I have never had to make any serious claim.

I think you should look at circa £600 for a £100K boat at a marina berth.

By the way I have no connection to the business other then being a happy customer

I've been with Navigators & General for 15 years and check their quote every year. They are consistently hundreds cheaper and when other co's say maybe you're short on specific cover and when I check I always seem to have better cover than competitor is offering.

Unfortunately still don't know what they are like in paying out as I've never made a claim!

Thinking back to old MBM/MBY reviews on insurers I think the truth is that some insurers seem to have better historical experience with certain makes of boat. N&G seem to like Brooms plus they have an ideal thing that cover is available for inland waterways plus 30 days at sea which is ideal for my type of boating.

I think you need to shop until you find the insurer who specialises in your boat and your type of boating

As others have implied, its a question of a bit of legwork.. just bcz I got a cheaper quote, doesnt mean they apply the same criteria to you !
Ive used Traffords,Towergate,Bishop Skinner in the past.
Expect cheapest to most expensive to range by 150pct, but I prefer to stick with someone who has some experience of marine insurance, rather than just a two man desk in the back room, on the hopeful basis that if I ever needed to claim, they would at least be familiar with the market practices. I estimate I usually pay 0.5-0.6 pct of the value of the boat.

Was with Craftinsure(when paperwork came through it was actually insured with big name outfit that quoted me a lot more via broker) for 6 years.
They promptly paid out on a claim without any problems.
Have changed to SAGA this time purely because they were cheaper.

The figures banded about in the thread are about right, but it will depend a little on experience, ncb, cruising territory as already stated.

I use Denovo Marine Underwriting in Lymington and can vouch that their claims process is first class after suffering a very unusual engine failure last year.
They are competitive, but not necessarilly the cheapest, however the cover is very comprehensive. As important and something I enjoy is the fact that they are a fairly small company (big backing). There is no giant call centre where you are just a "please take a ticket and wait your turn" number. When you call, Shelly answers. Shelly will send out your policy documents and it will be Shelly that answers when you phone to let them know of a change of address (and I don't mean Shelly is simply a sister of "Maureen").

Contact them on 01590670055 or at www.insure-my-boat.com.

I do genuinely use them for the above reasons and have been with them for a number of years, but please mention Tom Bettle from Parkstone Bay Yachts if you ask them for a quote. It won't effect your premium, but it will give me a tiny bit more towards my Christmas fund!

Tom

I had a good quote (and switched) this year to St Margarets. Expect to pay about £500-£600 for your boat. Remember to read the small print, as an example sometimes they define impossible positions for your fire extinguishers (beside the fuel tanks!) but you only need to contact them and generally they will endorse the policy at no charge with your situation. Another is not leaving the boat unattended while at anchor, again just a phone call and it was taken out.

Just insured a £140k mobo for £670 with Haven Knox Johston. I have 6 years NCB and a discount for marina berth. I have been with them for years. I have had to claim once, which was for a relatively minor event many years ago but they handled the claim very well.

Briefly another boat broke its mooring, hit ours, burst davits so the claim was circa
£1.5k, however as it was the other party's fault, I claimed their insurance who happened to be Navigators and General, who were a nightmare to deal with for both party's involved. To cut a long story short I ended up claiming on my own insurance with HKJ and they dealt with without any hassle for me. I didn't lose my NCB either.

FWIW, personally I would stay away from cheap quotes from internet only insurance companies on the basis that it's only when you have to make a claim, you get to know if your insurers are any good. That goes for getting the cheapest deal, which may end up being the most expensive mistake ever.

I am with Craftinsure, and have been since I first got my boat in 2004. This year my premium went down. I even insured my RIB with them.

If you can put up with the water sound effects on their website, they are well worth the effort.

Mind you, touch wood, I have never claimed from them.

I don't agree with your last paragraph.
As I said previously, I used Craftinsure whom is Internet Based for many years. They are good, simple and transparrant with their policy wording, and affordable and even easily contactable by land line.
They are in fact underwritten by Navigators and General. Their policys (subject to status) are reasonable priced too! They had a presence at Southampton Boat Show which meant you could meet the team
I don,t use them now as the value of my current boat is out of their league and I had to move on to one of the larger (higher sum insured) insurers. If they did insure my value - well I would still be with them.
I am praising them because of good previous experience and that sort of service should be known.

Again I concur. Had to ring them once and got through to a Janet or Julie type person in their office - not a call centre - and my query was dealt with immediately. Same with email contact. I sent and received back three emails in one day during which my query was dealt with.
