As others have implied, its a question of a bit of legwork.. just bcz I got a cheaper quote, doesnt mean they apply the same criteria to you !Hi i was wondering could you give me an approx quote to insure a boat valued at 100k and who is the best companies out there thanks...

I've used them all - that's the major insurers. But, I found Craftinsure on the internet to be good value for your sum involved. They also are consistent on renewal (subject to claims) unlike the others whom try and hike your premium up each year.
Just insured a £140k mobo for £670 with Haven Knox Johston. I have 6 years NCB and a discount for marina berth. I have been with them for years. I have had to claim once, which was for a relatively minor event many years ago but they handled the claim very well.
Briefly another boat broke its mooring, hit ours, burst davits so the claim was circa
£1.5k, however as it was the other party's fault, I claimed their insurance who happened to be Navigators and General, who were a nightmare to deal with for both party's involved. To cut a long story short I ended up claiming on my own insurance with HKJ and they dealt with without any hassle for me. I didn't lose my NCB either.
FWIW, personally I would stay away from cheap quotes from internet only insurance companies on the basis that it's only when you have to make a claim, you get to know if your insurers are any good. That goes for getting the cheapest deal, which may end up being the most expensive mistake ever.
I don't agree with your last paragraph.
As I said previously, I used Craftinsure whom is Internet Based for many years. They are good, simple and transparrant with their policy wording, and affordable and even easily contactable by land line.
They are in fact underwritten by Navigators and General. Their policys (subject to status) are reasonable priced too! They had a presence at Southampton Boat Show which meant you could meet the team
I don,t use them now as the value of my current boat is out of their league and I had to move on to one of the larger (higher sum insured) insurers. If they did insure my value - well I would still be with them.
I am praising them because of good previous experience and that sort of service should be known.
