Insurance quote

Received an email today responding to my request for a quote from 'Insure My Boat'

They very kindly said that my Windy will be covered when in the water from 1st April to 31st October but between these times it must be stored ashore!

Plus it was £200 more than my renewal!

Think I'll go else where...........

I am with craftinsure http://www.craftinsure.com/ They are very good and my policy allows me to keep my 24ft in all year round for £140. They do ask for a 3 year survey and when I questioned this they said because I was already a customer they would review this on a yearly basis so I may not need one for 5 years. I have no connection with them just a very satisfied customer.

A lot of Insurers will accept a Letter from Recognised BoatYard stating seaworthy and in good order. Particularly if the yard is where boat is kept. This is common now for boats up to 25ft. Worth asking.

Declaring my interest I have to say even as a surveyor who'd happily do the work that a 3 yearly survey is a bit excessive for small vessels used only for the home waters sailing season: larger and more complex vessels used offshore are a different case. Lots can go wrong in 5 years and this seems much more reasonable.

I'd also recommend craftinsure. The premium is very competitive and they were excellent when I had to make a claim a few years after some kind person ran into my boat. Most of the time they replied to emails within hours and paid the claim very quickly

My insurance is GJW Direct; there was no problem earlier this year when I made a claim for forestay, genoa and furler damaged during a storm in West Wales; i have just renewed my policy with them; excellent service
