Am i right in saying that you can only get insurance with a valid survey, my situation is :- boats worth about 6k and dont want to fork out for survey. What options do i have ?
Some insurers, in some circumstances, will offer terms on the basis of a condition report from a boatyard. For newer vessels it is posible that no survey will be required at all.
Try GJW. I didn't need a survey for my prev boat that was worth about 6K. They just needed a letter from my stating that it was in good sound condition. I had no problems with them.

But they're third party only. If you're happy to bear the risk of your £6k boat (and contents) going down and just want to protect yourself against damaging someone else's property, they'd be a good way to go. £90 a year, Elbe to Brest, including racing. No silly rules about single handing or night sailing.

However... do you want to put to sea without a survey? This week's news about Hooligan V brings home just how important it is to make absolutely sure about the vessel and it's safety. Of course that in many ways depends on your own level of expertise but I don't think I would be happy to put to see without knowing that an expert had put their proffesional seal of aproval on the vessel.
