I have replaced 2 forestays ... 2 different boats ...

Had forestays made up to lemngth ... talurits / swages as approp. .... Fitted myself ... for a great deal less than your excess.

I assume from your post that the stay is the only real damaged item - that furler is OK ?

Sorry Dan, my comments were in response to Guapa, not you. I certainly would try a DIY fix and on my rig probably without dropping the mast using the spinny halliard. However, Guapa's a bit bigger so care will be needed lowering the roller gear.

Guapa - silence from me on cost because I can't find my invoice for the new rigging for the cap shrouds but looking at this

http://www.jimmygreen.co.uk/custom_chand...ing_rigging.htm,

plus some new Staylocks as a pricing example, I guess you are going to spend £200 on parts. Main problem is your distance from the boat and a source of new stuff - can't remember if there is a place at Levington. Needs some careful measuring.

Hi Jim,

Should be OK - all should be sorted by Friday.

I gave Nigel a call at RigMagic (SYH-Levington).
Can do the job for 450+VAT all-in.

I'm driving up tonight with Evita to park the boat on a pontoon.

Dent in the cruising kitty, but can "live" with 450+VAT.

Seems a fair price for something that is as thick as your wrist and half a cable long.
Have a great holiday!
