Insurance. Fully Comp or Third Party

Hi folks,

I'm a marine insurance broker in London and can answer some of the questions regarding insurance and claims that you might have.

Regarding surveys on vessels, it really depends. Everything from the year of build, value of the vessel, latest class surveys, claims history, or perceived potential risk come to play when requesting a survey. Even the insurer used can be a deciding factor. Sometimes brokers can negotiate on your behalf to have these surveys waived but it really depends on the situation and the vessel.

Regarding renewal premiums, I can guarantee that if you look hard enough you can find a cheaper option. It is not always the case that you pay more for the best but the rule does generally hold. The cheapest options usually mean reduced or none payment of claims but again this depends on the insurer, type of claim, total claim amount, etc etc.

I understand that I am not allowed to advertise my company here so I will not. I'm happy to answer any questions though so fire away. This is a very complex business and marine insurance really cannot be compared to your vehicle insurance. Far too many variables and complexities come into play.

I'm also happy to help with any claims queries. Our boss here is a heavy hitter in the P&I world and if he doesn't know, I can find out directly from underwriters so fire away.

Cheers,

Shahram
