I bought a 17ft Teal project boat and hoping to get it finished by the time Drakeford allows us to go out, thing is what sort of information will I need to get hold of, the boat came with no paperwork and nothing on it to tell me the age so all I know is it’s a blue and white Teal? or is it a case of just telling them what electrical things and engine I have? HELP!!!?

First you need to know is it a river or sea boat ,they made fishing boats as well

Newbridge South Wales, yeh when I took that photo it was before I done any work on it, I towed it back and the windows blew in, I’ve fitted them tidy now?

Ok marriner 60 great engine , insurance why cant you tell them you have a teal with a 60 on the back you may need to tell them if you have experiance and safety kit , do you have any.

ypu will need your radio as well. will you have a back up engine.

Yeh, my mariner is being delivered tomorrow, I made a few mistakes along the way buying crap engines then managed to find a decent engineer to give me some good advice, will probably get a 10hp mariner as well

No not yet, just fitted a new full steering set up on it, took the ply out of the door just waiting on the Perspex to be delivered to put in it, just the top to sand and paint and fit electrics, when it’s finished I’ll Chuck some before and after pics up??

I also got a seasafe pacific 550 18ft with a 30hp Johnson on it

Try Porthcawl brokers, they deal with a lot of smaller fishing boats Boat Insurance, Yacht Insurance, Marine trade, Porthcawl, Jetski

A 10hp auxiliary will be heavy and overkill on that boat, 5hp should be plenty.

I thought a 10hp because someone told me that their Teal struggled to get up on the plain with a 55hp engine but was great with the 60hp, so I just thought 5hp wouldn’t get it back, cheers pal??

No - it doesn't work like that. It needs massively more power to plane than to hit displacement speeds, hence struggling with a 55... buit a 5 or 10 will probably achieve similar speeds, once you hit hump speed (4 or 5 knots on that boat) you then need a massive power increase (say x 10) to get over the hump and playing.

But don't fret, whilst 10hp is overkill, it will work fine!
