Insulating Webasto Heater Duct Pipe - what to use?

Is there any reason not to use something like armaflex? It's cheap and you can order larger bore sizes from plumbers merchants.

I think it's about £9 for 2m

A plumber friend has used this and the outside of the insulation is cool to the touch. Must be working well!

I'm considering replacing my tatty bubble wrap with it.

Good call.
Data sheet says max 105 deg. David reckons you need 140 degrees but also says that thinsulate is good and its rated to 120 deg. The armaflex is class O so its not going to catch fire, the question is will it melt. At 9 quid and with the thinsulate lagging silly money i am going to try some and see.

I'm not sure but it is a sort of neoprene material, not like standard pipe insulation which is that grey foam stuff.

Unless you have two heaters. One forward and one aft with saloon outlets your going to struggle due to the pipe diameter reducing anyway as you get to the bow.

ALSO

Buy from Automotive trade and not maritime; same heater worth while difference in price (i heard that from a webasto installer) buy from a chandlers if they install it too because you will have some problems.

Jps Webasto are excellent and well prices too

I'm in the process of doing mine at the moment with Armaflex with the adhesive tape. Really nice to work with on existing pipes and get round corners. That said, my Webasto heats air via a hot water matrix and as David2452 kindly highlighted, it is only rated to 110C which is ok for me but probably not for a hot air heater.

His recommendation of the Armaflex HT would be ok with +200c as per their PDF: http://www.pipelagging.com/pdf/armaflex/HTArmaflexRangeUKROI.pdf

Only problem is I can't see it in the split self adheavie version.

Twaddle, the "installer" is clearly not Webasto trained and approved or he would know there are differences in mainly the ECU and air motor, and as for price, the new universal marine kit 4kw is actually cheaper than the equivalent universal vehicle kit. Never heard of JPS Webasto, unless you mean JPC, in which case I agree.
