There are no instruments with my cannabilesd 4108s and I would like to set something up for my ' test bed' I have fitted an oil pressure sensor ( but need a gauge) and see that there are what appear to be 2 water temp sensors ( why two?) at either end of the head ( but no gauges).
I guess I could also do with a rev counter but cant see where it was fitted! I think that there may be stand alone electronic tacho's that fit on the alternator but not certain about these.
I also note that I could fit an engine oil temp gauge and ( especially as I want to try the engine without the oil cooler) I would like to explore this.
Advice appreciated as always!

I've gone through this exercise already. My 4 108 had a mechanical rev counter but I'm not sure what drove it from memory.(Maybe camshaft?) (I'll get up in the yacht tomorrow and check) While trying to work that out I found this link which could be useful

There are plenty of instruments on eBay. I bought a new tractor 0-4000 RPM on eBay but I think I was lucky as it was a quality brand. But there are plenty of them on eBay for about $A45 (£25) https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=tachometer+0-4000+rpm&_sacat=0
My tacho works off the alternator but there are ones that work of the teeth of the flkywheel.

It's getting late so I'll have a look at your post again in the morning. I'm sure I can help.

I assume your motor has been marinized? If so keep in mind that Perkins didn't sell marinized motors. There were ½ doz jobbers who had their own marinize designs Here are a few different types.

A motor in a car or tractor would have airflow over the sump which would keep the oil cool but in a boat? I don't think I'd do away with the oil cooler
