I'm looking for an instrument pod or garage to take 3 Raymarine i70 instruments. I want to fit them over the companionway hatch, so 3 instrument horizontally side by side.

I've been using Google and looking at sites like Force 4 and jgtech and similar, but can't find what I'm looking for.

I've concluded that I'm not using the correct search terms.

So what do you call an instrument housing??

Great, thanks very much, I've now found something in the Ocean Equipment range which is just what i need, not cheap though!

An instrument pod is a pretty simple project, rather than settle for something that almost fits or looks close to what you want.

By building your own it will fit properly and you add some nice extras, like built in cable runs, lights, perhaps a speaker. You can shape to match the existing curves of the surrounding are so it does not like an add on.

Using closed cell foam and fibreglass you can produce a really good looking unit.

The foam can be bent to any shape by making cuts on the inside of any bends, so even compound bends are straight forward.

Laminate inside and out, add a layer of Micro Spheres and resin, sand smooth and coat with flow coat to match the deck.

You can also add an interesting face plate by ising a clear plasic and backing board with your very own background with your logo or the vessels name.

More important is the fact that you created it and for a lot less than a thats looks alright very expensive one.

Oh, don't forget to ask what will happen to your expensive pod if some poor steps on it.

The one you build will have no problems.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

Most boat hatches have a unique shape & size so require a hatch garage ( often a very useful site for a solar panel ) and instrument pod either from the boat builder or at least made to measure.
