Instrument mounting mystery

I have bought a new clock and barometer to mount on the cabin ceiling but have no clue as to how they are mounted using the rubber "gaskets" supplied. The rubber is not a tight fit in the back of the instruments so am I missing something as there are no instructions. Clearly they will fall off without some kind of physical fixing but what have others done?

could it be that those two rings fit over the barrels of the clock and barometer.... using the rubber rings to squish the clock and barometer flange the white flange of the rings which is then screwed up holding the clock and barometer in place.

So the rubber is seen around the outside of the clocks? That is not the look I was hoping for. The rubber will discolour over time. I will find a different way to fix them. The supplier just sent me the instruction leaflet which has no information.

Without the whole picture it looks to me like the instruments may need rear mounting to the panel. Like a VDO gauge.

Well I tried that option and there is no way that the rubber will stretch over the clock rim so that cannot be right. Its quite hard rubber. This is the rubber inside the case just snug on the clock plastic casing but too loose to be secure on a vertical surface.

The first post shows the rubber backings fitted. That's all there is to secure them. I removed a rubber backing to show how it goes inside the clock case.
There is a single screw hanging hole on the back of the clock but this is no good for a boat especially as the MF has a back sloping cockpit roof. The clock would be hanging down off the roof.
