Instructions not to anchor in Osbourne bay

As usual loads of BS but no offer to come out and sail.

I'll try to organise a couple of identical sailing dinghies, if you can manage sailing rather than flapping your lip.

L'Escargot, Seajet, you're just in denial, relax and go with it.

You saw through us - I am going to let him hostie on my boat and then show him the golden rivet :D:D:D

Publicising restrictions would also help - how many people know of the 10 knot speed limit 1000 yards offshore in most of the eastern Solent? Either not many or a lot choose to ignore it.

I'll have you know that it's long been an aim of mine to get nicked for that!

I got an all-time personal best of 9.9 kts SOG, 100 yards off Hurst† last summer, with help from tide and kite ;-)

† Yes, I /know/ that's Western Solent.

I challenged you to a test of sailing ability / seamanship in a boat not a toy mobo, and as I pointed out I am happy to say I don't have one !

Happy to compare experience, skills and qualifications, I seem to recall a silence when real boats were mentioned.

Seajet. You seem to spend alot of time being dismissive of other peoples boats, even mentioning more than once your 'REAL' boat.

What is this 'REAL' boat that you have, cos the one in the link in your signature looks like a bath toy?

Newsailer,

I am not dismissive of sailing boats generally, and if you don't know a good boat when you see one that's your problem; PBO and Sailing Today seemed to agree with me.

As for that photo, the only appealing bit would be a [removed by admin].

Newsailor,

apparently you're in need of some experience to give you judgement; I have a space for a crew this weekend, weather permitting, fancy a sail from Chichester to Cowes this Friday, Bembridge on Saturday ?

So English heritage has declared a no anchoring zone and instructed yachts not to anchor? This pre empts legislation and is counter to the claims elsewhere that this is voluntary.

Furthermore there is a link to the document on the balanced seas website which covers from Osbourne bay to Ryde based on kings Quay which is to the east of Osbourne bay.

This suggests to me that EH have put bouys on the bit they may own but there are wider designs of the whole area.

It is counter productive for me and Lescargot to argue whether one wants to anchor directly in front of the Osbournew beach tea shop or not, it really is the thin end of the wedge regarding anchoring over a much wider area.

Can anyone tell me what legal sanctions EH or anyone else can bring against an anchored yachts skipper.

This really is nonesense when our streets are plagued by antisocial behaivour yet for the sake of trying to escape for a bit of peace and quiet ( ok lescargot there are some jetskis) yet we risk being criminalised.

Looks like they are deliberately trying to engineer a confrontation.

Nicholas123,

I thought apart from the odd cowboy ( ! ) keen to be regulated for their own reasons, the main argument is done and dusted after the RYA press release, to the effect that EH had acted unlawfully and if they try telling boat owners what they can and can't do, the reply should be something along the lines of 'up yours'.

Some people don't catch on that it's not the positioning of this 'buoyed off' area, it's the fact that EH were trying to grab a bit of the open sea when they had no authority to do so.

Placing a lackey with a megaphone on the shore certainly did seem asking for confrontation !

Further claims from l'escargot that anyone entering the area should not be allowed in a boat at all led to our current little discussion, he doesn't seem aware that boats tack inshore especially when dodging the tide.

I've used that shore quite a few times when I've returned from further afield & needed a rest or the tide has been against me at Portsmouth Harbour entrance so it's more than just a tacking issue it could be a matter of life or death.

Sometimes in this sort of thread I am almost tempted to remove people from my ignore list! Only get to see half of the arguments otherwise. :D
