Instructions not to anchor in Osbourne bay

Well as I can see hazards, and read charts for that matter, I can sort it out for myself not be bothered by people with vested interests.

As mentioned I am dubious whether swimmers will ever bother, it's just something else for English Heritage to make out is a 'facility offered' and a chance to mention Victorias' bathing machine as an attraction.

If you actually got out in a boat and saw for yourself you would see swimmers there regularly.

I think a big problem is many boaters see boating as a regulation free area and no restrictions apply to them - I have just listened to QHM ******* a mobo for entering Portsmouth at speed and crossing to Gunwharf without clearance to drop someone on the Gosport ferry pontoon. What we need are more prosecutions to get the message over - like the idiot who had to cough up £1700 for towing a wakeboarder up Short Reach in Lymington last year. Publicising restrictions would also help - how many people know of the 10knot speed limit 1000 yards offshore in most of the western Solent? Either not many or a lot choose to ignore it.

There are amazing number of people who think the moment they step on a boat they have an absolute right to go anywhere and do anything with no concern for any rules or regulations. This in the UK is made 100% worse by the regretable reality we make rules and laws which we are completely unable to enforce except under exceptional circumstances. The marina I was berthed in in the UK was also home to a very nice police rib, but as far as I was aware it never went out to do anything other than train plods in high speed boat handling. QHMs do a bit within their areas but most of the time no one else bothers. As a result all types of water users thumb their noses at both authority and any one else, often to the point of threatening violence when some one ticks them off.

If we expect rules and regulations to be obey we do have to enforce then.

I do go out, in a real boat not a toy mobo; next time I'm there I'll have a look.

A toy mobo that you can't handle otherwise you wouldn't have backed out of your challenge. Actually, I'm away in my other boat this week, you would probably struggle with that as well. :D

So tell me, how many times have you been to Osborne Bay since the buoys have been there? Are any of your posts based on any real knowledge?

I challenged you to a test of sailing ability / seamanship in a boat not a toy mobo, and as I pointed out I am happy to say I don't have one !

I have been to the East of Cowes lately, not that it's any of your putrid business; please re-arrange these words in a well known phrase or saying, [removed].

Out.

No, you said seamanship "in any vessel" and then had to back out when you realised your limitations and rash challenge :D

I'll take it that you have resorted to abuse because you aren't able to say that you have been to Osborne Bay lately or that your posts are based on any real knowledge. Back to sailing your computer chair then...

One of the reasons why I decided to retire from QHM Portsmouth Harbour Patrol. :(

True. Chi harbour Patrol RIB does carry radar speed guns, and they have acheived a small number of prosecutions. But they too put themselves on the line when the try to enforce speed limits: a couple of years ago some bloke headbutted a Patrolman after being pulled for speeding.

But times they are a changing as the song goes, and the legislators are setting about 'Managing' Uk coastal waters. MCZs are the tip of the Iceberg, and as I have said before Uks Marine Plan' is coming. Whether it will materialise in my sailing time remains to be seen. But people will almost certainly find things changing oiut of all recognition. Battles ahead?

... and anyone who disagrees with him or knows more than him because they must be lousy seamen - he's going to save a fortune on postage this Christmas. I must learn to have more patience with people who have an opinion on everything and knowledge of very little, but I do find it difficult...:D He keeps saying "out" and that he's not going to talk to me anymore and then forgets

Happy to compare experience, skills and qualifications, I seem to recall a silence when real boats were mentioned.

If you think it a thrill getting a reply when I've said 'out', I'm not at all surprised by now.

Pathetic.

I agree it's pathetic on both our parts which is why I try to bin it but am daft enough to bite at insults; as matey can't provide a boat and I'm not letting mine out for genuine reasons nothing to do with this, I'm binning this chat and he can come out with more bull.

Feel free to bluster on escargot, I am quite happy with my abilities and so are those who know me. :)

On the other hand whilst I share many of your concerns about MCZs especially the people who are apparently trying to run then, I wonder where the funds to police them will be found. Even Studland wold need a force of some 6 zealots to ensure compliance, probably more if you apply conservationist elfin safety as well.

:D

I must confess to once telling someone to "head north up the Medina, to the Folly" :o It's all about which way you're looking, isn't it? :)

It's living on the IW that does it - they print all the tourist maps etc upside down with south at the top as if you are looking at the island from the mainland.

Speak for yourself. You alude to having been to Osborne Bay but won't say you have been, you talk about vague 'genuine reasons' for not using your boat and expect me to provide you with a boat for some silly challenge you issued and backed out of when I accepted, then you throw out insults and abuse - you're not putting yourself over very well are you? In fact I am starting to think you are a very lonely 14 year old computer nerd called Hilary...

Is your computer chair fin or bilge keel? :D:D
