Hi how do i install my engine without struggling to offer it up to the bearers ect, can i measure something and adjust the bearers beforehand, its a volvo 10hp by the way, cheers chris.

I had the same problem. I made the bearers horizontal and then installed Halyard Aquadrive system to align the shaft. A thrust bulkhead in galvanised steel was then bolted under the engine to the engine bearers. Have a look at my blog as there a few photos if that helps. It was expensive, but the aquadrive made life easy in terms of making the bearers and probably cheaper than wrestling with messed up alignments for a whole summer.

Hi roach 48,thanks for the photo`s very helpful, my old petter mini six is about the same size as the volvo but the volvos mounts are 7 inches apart lenght ways as aposed to the petters 18 inches i think, also the back mounts are 2 inches higher,(still following)i think i`ll lift the engine on and then if drastic surgery is needed remove the bearers and start from scratch, what do you think?
regards chris.

I had the same dilemma. The Beta 10 mounts were much wider than those of the previous Stuart. I needed to replace floors in the area and drop the keel, so it made sense starting from scratch. It's a big job, but then a brand new engine deserves this I think. If your bearers look ok then you may get away with building the current ones in - or sit the new engine in a galvanised steel frame? Depends on the condition of the current bearers though. All I would say is that if you make new bearers, make them from Canadian Rock Elm and try and have it spanning as many floors as feasibly possible -your hull will be grateful for it!

Hi roach, nice blog, further updates on the re engine, decided to replace the engine bearers with custom made jobs to suit the volvo, i am going to use mahogany as i have some lengths kicking about and the old bearers are mahogany, i have a flexy coupling on the prop shaft which is fine exept the bolt holes are imperial and the gearbox bolts are metric never mind i can sort that easily enough its just the time factor. i hope to have it all finished this weekend snow permiting that is, good luck with roach, regards chris.
