I’m going to pull my injections on our kad42 engines to get them checked I’ve had some white smoke when underway and want to put my mind to rest. So here are my questions
1) I’ve heard the vp tool is rubbish and people say they made there own anyone got a pic or drawing of said tool or anyone want to sell one ?
2) I’ve heard you need to drain the coolant prior to removing the injectors Is this in case you disturb the injector Sleeve and let’s coolent into the engine is this correct ?
3) If the sleeve does get disturbed what the worst that can happen is just case putting in new sleeve in or is it a head off job
4) can just take them to place that tests automotive injectors and would they know if they were within spec

I wouldn’t class my self as a novice as I’ve rebuilt many engine pistons out etc and had heads off ,and taken injectors out in the past but heard this thing about the sleeve and don’t want to end up having to take head off or anything like that so thought I would ask first

Thanks Nick

Dont know if you have the same type of installation as my KAD44, but I made a tool from a tube with 17mm inner dia about 150mm long and installed it over the injector. Then i used a rod with about 14mm dia an threaded one end to fit the injector (M12x1.5) and the other end i treaded for a nut and washer to pull out the injector. If you have the same injector I may be able to make a drawing for you if you want to make one yourself.

You dont need to drain the coolant if you just want to remove the injectors. But if you remove the injector sleeves you need to drain coolant.

Yes. I used Colchester Fuel Injection ( who do all the work for boats.co.uk) but any Bosche injection centre should be able to do it.

Some places are believed better than others, but the kit they test with is I believe mostly automated and very expensive so I would be surprised if there is much variation.

I assume if you use the correct tool the sleeve should stay put when you pull the injector ?

Don’t forget to give the sleeves a good clean before you reinstall

I’ve heard there is a Volvo tool to do this or I can just use one of these wire brush things that look bit like bottle brush?
Hi
i copied this from the my workshop manaual
Cleaning seat for copper sleeve Special tools: 885 289
It is very important that all forms of deposits on the copper sleeve mating surface in the cylinder head are removed before installing the new copper sleeve.
1
Mount brush 885 289 on a variable speed drill. Maximum engine speed for the brush is 1000 rpm. Insert the brush in the nozzle and clean the seat. Blow clean with compressed air.

But you can by any sleave cleaning tool from the internet

I might chance the vp injector tool its only about £50 and only needs to do 2 engines the injectors were only out about 8 years ago when the engines were fully rebuilt so hopefully there not seized in ?
I’ve been thinking of using some spare ceramic injector Grease I’ve got left over from when I did my car anyone else put some anti seize grease when they re installed the injectors
