I have two TAMD75P needing new injectors. The existing ones have been pressure tested with dire results but after 1k hours I guess I cannot complain.

Apart from a trip down Wallet Lane to Mr Volvo are there any other alternative suppliers?

If so what part number to ask for, I guess Bosch is the one.

These are lorry parts but sold at marine prices or am I wrong?!!

Any advice most welcome.

Richard

Who has tested them? I am surprised that a genuine result has from a certified Bosch dealer has told you only one has failed unless you have had an extreme amount of water through it or debris from inside the injection pump has lodged itself inside the nozzle.

I'd be interested to hear your story either on the forum or via a pm, as to what engine symptoms you had prior to dismantling the engine to identify what symptoms you had.

I can point you to a genuine dealer at the right price if you tell us your location.

We have just had all 12 of our injectors from our 2x KAMD42A reconditioned by Diesel Electro in Norwich. All had new diaphragms (I think that's what he said, though I had fallen off my chair at the time!) and new nozzles. Total cost £980 (£83 per injector) as opposed to £108 per injector for exchange reconditioned ones from VP. Engine hours are arouns 1200 so probably about time they were done. This was all part of an overhaul of our engines brought about by a cracked exhaust manifold!

Is it just me or does 1000 hours seem a bit low to be changing injectors because of normal wear and tear.
Could understand if contamination ?

No, it's a Sealine 350. Are you saying I paid over the odds? They were serviced by a local diesel specialist (not marine either!) and were still cheaper than the reconditioned ones from the local VP dealer.

Indeed, in a truck doing 12 hours a day, 1000 hours is about 4 months or so, surely not many hours for injector replacement?

I suppose in a boat they dont get the daily use that a truck does which might cause early problems but even so 1000 hours isnt really a lot in the scheme of things to start having to refurb injectors.

I know in Marks case, age and lack of and poor maintenance on previous owners parts might have some bearing on the condition of the injectors but is it all that common to have to refurb injectors at these sorts of hours?

Doesn't age have a part to play as well as hours though? At 20 years old there must be parts inside that weaken (springs etc) irrespective of hours run I would have thought.

Strip down rebuild using new nozzles set up to correct opening pressure, should be as good as new. Rec at 1000 hours or ten years.

VP is injector rebuild @ 1,000 hours part of Volvo Penta published service procedure??

I have been pretty close to Bosch closed tip injectors for many years and only MAN and Volvo spring to mind as requiring injector servicing at a given period, 1,000 hours is the MAN big service, pretty critical on these engines as they can have a nasty habit of spitting the tip off the injector when coming off load, which is why they are referred to as 'mangrenades'.

A while back I repowered a heap of Mafi terminal tractors for dock operator, units originally had the old Volvo 6.73 TD 70's in them. Duty cycle of these machines is tough. Started up at the beginning of a shift, loadasmoke, then run for 12 hours, never shut down, idling sometimes for up to two hours, then neanderthal man gets behind the wheel sticks auto transmission into drive and gives motor serious tight wire for half an hour or so hauling containers often 40 tonnes plus then jumps out leaving motor idling again.

These TD70's had perfect service records and had stood up to a **** job well, all had done well over 20,000 hours. Head cracking was only issue, probably due to duty cycle but no record of any injector change outs, even when new heads fitted, injectors re-used.

My experience is of Bosch closed nozzle injectors is as per the old TD 70's lasting out to engine overhaul, unless they suffer contamination which takes out a tip or two but never all of them.

New Bosch genuine nozzles should come in around £50/60 a pop, Lucas stuff used to be half that however all changed now with some Lucas Delphi nozzles being twice the price of Bosch. There is a lot of non-genuine stuff out there from China and Italy, not all of it bad, but still a lottery when compared with genuine.

Said before pump shop dictionary does not include 'no fault found'.
